Purple Mountains Majesty…the hills are alive with the view of Lupine. The North East has finally found its footing in summer, the wild mountain flowers are blooming. The White Mountain are no longer white, they’re green and purple.
I love the Iris we have in our yard, but they go so quickly. It seems like they only bloom for a little over a week and then they’re gone, so I’ll enjoy them while I can. The Lilly’s and Butterfly bushes aren’t ready, but they’re open in time.
We are never bored with the weather in the Mountains - Last Thursday I woke to temperatures in the 30's and this Thursday the mid-day temperatures where over 90 degrees.
For my Friends who live in the southern states...check out the snow still on the Highest peak in the North East. Mount Washington at 6,300 feet still has snow in the Tuckerman's ravine area... My Son and some friends hiked the ravine and skied in May. This extremely steep high altitude snow field can only be skied by hiking it first (no lifts) which keeps the novice skiers away and only the serious hikers on the trails.
Depending on the depth of the winter snow we can find snow on Mountain Washington till Nearly July...and it's not unheard of to see the first snow of the year as early as September at this elevation.
We Take Summer as long as we can have it. We joke in the Mountains that we have Ski Season, Mud Season, Bug Season and off season...not true we have four beautiful and distinctive seasons to enjoy the weather and seasonal sports that change with the weather. When the temps hit 40 we consider that tee shirt weather.
