SPEECHLESS SUNDAY-HAY HAY

Hay

Hay is a favorite photography subject for me because there are many farms in the area.  I just took a look at Google and it seems I am not alone.

The first time I saw a bale of hay I had no idea as to what it would be used for.  Since then I have found out how important it is to the food supply, since hay is a form of food for livestock.

Hay Hay!

Valerie I was not so young I grew up where the livestocks were always grazing outside, no need to collect hay.

Peggy I have seen several homes where hay was the insulation.  yes we have some very old homes in this area.

Like the photo, like the commentary, LOL.  We see so many of these in my neck of the woods since I'm in the middle of horse country in north Scottsdale.

You know i am a city girl(woman) when I say I've never seen hay nor do I know what it is cut from. I assumed it was grass.

Jennifer,

I grew up in the country and we had cows, horses, and sheep that would eat hay.  As kids when we'd see a truck or trailer of hay like that, we had a little saying where we'd make a wish on it.  Kind of like "star light, star bright", but it was "Bale of hay. Bale of hay. Make a wish and turn away."

That photo reminds me of my childhood, Jennifer.  I remember a particular trip back to visit family in Kansas.  My uncle had a hay wagon which looked very similar to the one pictured!

I also should mention that I like that you provided the definition for hay (hay is a form of food for livestock). . .Some of us city folks might not know that:-)

Jennifer, when I was I child we used to have the "balers" come a couple of times a year.  It was great fun for me....all I had to do was help Mom cook for the extra mouths and get the lemonade and cookies ready for breaks.  Boy, could those guys eat!  It was only five extra guys, but they ate at least eight pounds of potatoes....mashed plus meat, vegetables, homemade rolls, etc.

Later, when I was older I "got" to help throwing bales into the hay mow....whew!  95 degrees and humidity in a hay mow.  FUN!

Hay Jennifer :-) loved the photo of the bales of hay.  I see a lot of it in the rural parts of Virginia as well, so I'll think about your post from now on.
