Why did the turkeys cross the road?

TurkeysThe other day I was out in Rathdrum installing a lock box on a new listing.  As I drove along I noticed an interesting sight - three turkeys strutting along the side of the road!

Which posed the interesting question:  Why did the turkeys cross the road?  I pulled over and grabbed my camera, and thought I'd get a closer look.

The birds seemed annoyed at my stalking of them, and about as cooperative as my kids are when I try to snap pictures of them.  They were a constantly moving target, and one guy in particular ruffled his tail feathers repeatedly in an attempt to scare me away.  But rather than trot off in the other direction, they were determined to get past me and cross to the other side of the road.

Eventually, after some furious tail ruffling and loud gobbling, I let them pass.  It was a fun and unexpected diversion on a bright and sunny evening in Rathdrum, Idaho.

Janna, how wonderful.  I only wish I had been there.  How nice it would have been for me to be able to share some time with my "sister" turkeys ?  I am sure the three of them and I would have lots to talk about.  Perhaps they were distant relatives of my husband ?  Could be !

Janna, good shot of those turkeys! How funny that they were all in a row. And it looks like they posed for you!

Hi Janna, Like Andrea says...it sure does look like they were posing for you and no sign of those ruffled feathers! Was there anything on the other side of the road that looked interesting?

How funny!  We don't have a lot of 'turkey crossings' in the Northern Virginia area!
