Speechless Sunday We had a threesome at the San Diego Zoo this morning, each of us with our own Canon camera: Eric with a Rebel, me with a Rebel XSi, and Russel with a 550D. Between the three of us we took 647 pictures. One of my pictures is of a one-month-old Koala. I cropped it so you could see the baby better: At first you might think the big koala is looking at you, but the face you see is a baby koala on the back of its mommy, who was looking out the back window. The Zookeeper said that the baby has only been out of its mommy's pouch for a day. Here are a few more pictures of koalas from this morning: Don't forget that koalas are not bears, so don't say, "Oh look at the koala bears!" They are marsupials, which is why the mommy carries the baby in its pouch. ♪♫♫♫♪ Recent blog posts:

The only thing I can say is awwwww! So cute! Hope Russel is going to post some photos of the baby flamingos.
647 pictures is lot of clicking but also a lot of future eye candy.
Thanks for sharing baby Kaola with us.
Why do people call these marsupials bears?
Jim, great photos, sounds like an awesome day, I can't wait to get out there
Jim, I have a wonderful picture a of the albino koala that passed away a couple years ago. I would love to post it, but I no longer have contact info so copyright is an issue. The albino koala at SD zoo was incredible...If I ever get permission I will post.
Hey Jim, How cool is that, I have a cousin over in down under country who helps raises them. Lots of pictures. Good Job.
Hi Jim, wow....you all took a lot of pictures. And I had been pretty proud of myself for having taken over 300 in the last week. All of these pictures are so cute. For some reason, I find the little paw a touching picture.
Jim: Your threesome was a success, as I saw Eric's already! I didn't know Koala's were not bears! Thanks for the insight!
Wow Jim, Beautiful pictures from San Diego and Mission Valley California! The San Diego Zoo is one of the nicest places I have been with my family. Magnificent grounds, paths, greenery and awesome zoo and animals. It is world famous and deservedly so. Thanks so much for sharing your photos.
Jim, a little history of Koala's...and great photos of these "pouched mammals". The Koala's are sooo cute, but WOW what nails they have :)
With the three of you snapping so many photos, can't even imagine any of them not being outstanding, and these of the Koala are are proof of your talents!
So darling are those sweet bears! Glad you all had such a great time and the photos are gorgeous!
Great pictures Jim. With a good camera, which you seem to have, the zoo can be an excellent source of photos.
Cute, cute, CUTE! That's over 200 photos PER at the zoo! No, you're my kind of guys--I do the same thing and my hubby just shakes his head at me! Out of 200, I may get 20 that I really do love! I can't take my chances and have one be bad, right?!
Great shots, Jim!
That is a heck of a lot of pictures Jim and those are awfully long nails on that little baby! So cute, you're lucky to see them up close like that.
Nice pics of your trip to the zoo. You took a lot of pictures on your trip
Jim, looking at your photos, you see why it's no surprise that koalas were the real life models for teddy "bears".... they both look cuddly except that the koalas would probably not enjoy being messed with by humans.

Margaret – They kind of look like bears, and I guess before we got all of these genome projects and DNA testing, they were called koala bears. Now we know that they are not bears.
