There are lions out there. Downsize from that back-country Greenwich, CT. estate and save yourselves.

Far be it from me to tell you when you should give up the notion that staying forever in that way too large house in the Greenwich, CT. back-country is a viable option. BUT,  Lions have been seen roaming the Greenwich, CT. back woods. Now if that isn't some added incentive to
Dog in Fairfield County, CT.reconsider your strategy, then I don't know what is.

Years ago when it was you and the six kids, the big house and yard made perfect sense. Back then you didn't have to be able to out run a hungry lion, you just had to be able to out run one of the kids. I'm just saying, if you are swimming with sharks in the water, is it not a bit more comforting when there are lots of other people swimming around you? Give the carnivorous creatures some additional dining options besides yourself. It spreads out the risk of being a crunchy surf snack. Mmmmm salty.

Now you are out there all alone tending to all those chores you used to made the kids do, if they wanted to borrow the car. The lawn, the fence, the log pile, the gardens. All that captive semi-slave labor grew up and moved away. Ingrates.

Sure, the kids will rush on over and help with the ever growing list of things that have begun to fall down around you. When they are done taking care of their own homes, yards, kids going to soccer and high pressure jobs.

What did you think was going to happen when you paid up for that Ivy League education? They've grown up and gotten all successful and "busy" on you.  You are hosed.

Skull of animal in Fairfield County CT.So there you are out back, futzing with the dandelions and crabgrass. Like a tasty antelope grazing on the veldt, unaware of the keen eyes fixed upon you. You might as well be wearing the meat suit that crazy Madonna wannabe singer Lady Gaga has.

Let us at Turning Point Estate Services, help you downsize to a more manageable living arrangement. I would hate to hear you have been snacked upon by the Greenwich Lion.

...let's not forget the Milford mountain lion!  Hit by a large SUV and killed on the Merritt Parkway!  Where there's one, there may be more.  I'm fascinated by this lion business!

We also have coyotes, so we never leave our smaller dog, Rocky, outside alone.  Big Bogart is always with him..although Boggie would probably try to play with a coyote, not ward him off...

Julie, According to the Greenwich Mountain Lion (via his Facebook page) they were cousins.

Thank goodness you have a larger dog to protect the smaller guy. Th coyotes are getting to be a real problem.

Peter - What a great post - did you aim that at me?  We are sitting in exactly what you are talking about.  The great awesome home with no one to help any longer.....    Even the high schoolers don't want to work ...

Know of anyone in our town needing a job working part time outdoors for cash?  If you do, send them my way!

I don't know how you come up with this stuff, but it's a riot!  You are a very entertaining writer, Peter!

Dagny, I was not thinking of you specifically. I was targeting much, much older estate dwellers. Your compound is heavily fortified against deer and lions anyway.

Sharon, Thanks. I am just doing my part, warning all those back-country dwellers of the dangers that lurk in the forest.

Peter - this is excellent!  Downsizing seems to be difficult for so many people.  This should be another exciting door to open finding more freedom and time to do what they currently enjoy.  I think it is not fun to keep up a huge home when almost everyone else has left.  This is great advise.  BTW, I love the feet by the fireplace picture - nice touch!

Barbara, Thank you so much. We see many empty nester's with their hands too full of large house related issues. Now with large man eating animals roaming the woods, I thought I would let them know I am here to help. The  fireplace is there to tell clients to kick back and relax, we have got you covered.

Peter, great points for empty-nesters to think about...even if the idea of being a lion's snack doesn't concern them! A large home mean lots of extra chores.

Nina, The lion is real, as are the issues facing the empty nester's. I hope they give it some thought given the dire situation.

Always remember that the lions were here first, and treat them with respect. If you don’t respect them, then ask Peter to help you find a new home away from them!

Russel, I completely agree. We built in their yard and should always remember that.
