Transforming a Master Bedroom into a Buyer's Dream

Home Stager with Birgit Anich Staging & Interiors, 203.807.4040

Master Bedrooms are one of the most important rooms when it comes to selling a house. It has to be appealing and should have ONE function only – being a bedroom. No desks with computers, no TV, no kids stuff, ….

The master bedroom should be a sanctuary, a place to relax, a place the feels warm and welcoming, a place where you can sink in and dream. The changes can be simple to make this happen.

Paint and a new bedding with adding some artwork can make a huge difference. Birgit Anich Staging & Interiors transformed this Master Bedroom with simple means such as painting the bookshelf, adding a couple of chairs, new bedding, and a few accessories that enhance the shore location.

What do you mean, NO TV!  This is my man cave and a TV is mandatory in here.

What a great transformation!  Often times homeowners are afraid to paint over Oak finishes, but as you have shown with your staging makeover pics,... it really can give a room better continuity and a fresh updated look! Bravo!

Painting the built-in shelving was the best thing that could have happened to that room !  What a beautiful and dramatic difference it makes.

Birgit--what a difficult configuration with the recessed oak shelving.  However, a great stager (meaning you) can transform even the most awkward spaces into something fantastic.  Very nice work.

Thank goodness those bookcases were painted out!  That's an instant update right there!  Adding the lamps in there was brilliant!

Thank you all for your great comments!! Yes, painting the oak made the room look so much more luxurious. After I had recommended this to the home seller, the real estate agent called me and did at first not agree with this. After talking to her she agreed.

Doug, I can understand that you like your TV in the bedroom. This is fine for living. However, when staging a home for sale it should not have a TV in the room. Not all buyers like a TV in their bedroom - when I go to houses, it is actually the minority of people having a TV in the Master Bedroom.

Janet, the most difficult part with the shelving was that only a couple of shelves were movable, so I had to work with the spacing that was between the shelves. I would have preferred moving them a little around to create a better distribution.

Kathy, thank you for the feature!!!

Birgit- what a marvelous transformation.. and what a big difference painting the wood cabinets made!  When you see the "after" bedroom it is now fresh, inviting and it looks like a haven for the owner.

Birgit - I couldn't agree more.  There is no place for t.v.s, office desks and sundry in the Master Bedroom.  This should be a retreat from the maddening world, a place of rest and respite.  Your Master Bedroom transformation is gorgeous.

This clinches it.  I'm going to paint the gosh-awful oak headboard in my bedroom.  Have wanted to do it for years but haven't been able to decide on the color.  Time to move forward.  Beautiful transformation and staging Birgit!

Wow, I have to be honest I (a newbiew) would've been a little nervous about painting the shelves or even suggesting it to a homeowner, but now I would feel more confident about actually doing it just because I see how fabulous this turned out.  Thanks for the post and pic's Brigit!!

Kathy, I am not a big fan of oak wood in general, but in this bedroom, it just did not work with the room at all.

Thank you Sally!!

Go for it, Ginger! Hope you are doing well.

Thanks Janice!! - btw -what does "gf" stand for?

Thank you Pam!! :)

Rebecca, welcome!! If you feel that something does now work right in a room, just go for the improvement. Paint is the easiest and least expensive way of updating or freshening up things. And is just paint...

Yeah!!! You got your client to paint the book shelves!! I have a hard time talking them into it even for a Redesign much less for selling. But I will never stop suggesting it. Like my post today where I got the client to paint the kitchen cabinets.....nothing better!! Great job.

Preparing your property for sale

Hi Birgit, Painting the wood bookcases was the best solution to providing a new look in that room. Without doing that one thing the room would not look as good as it does. My father is a carpenter and he just about faints every time I tell him that I had a client paint solid wood in a home.

What can I say, the public does not want the wood look right now. Give buyers what they see in magazines and they will buy everytime. Unless they are reading a wood working magazine, that probably means they want the painted look. Great post, and love the middle picture.
