Proof that bears do poop in the woods!

Have you ever heard someone say "Does a bear poop in the woods"?  You may think that is a rhetorical question, because it is assumed that they do.  Have you ever seen the evidence?

In case you know your "stuff"; here is a better visual.

proof that bears do poop in the woods

I am blessed to live in Boise, Idaho where I can leave my office and in less than an hour enjoy the mountains that serve as Boise's backdrop.  Instead of living in a congested city and having to go the neighborhood pub for a beer at 5pm, I went out for a bear instead!

Now, if I can just figure out how to get WIFI signal up there, I could spend a lot more time enjoying natures beauty more often.  Some would argue is this is truely "God's Country" but I do know, it is at least a "local call" from my home!

Looks like I need to upload a different photo of the bear poop.  I took that one with my cell phone and uploaded it to my Facebook page and then used it instead of the original.  Feel free to go to my facebook page and check out more bear photos from my album "Bearly out of Boise".

They poop in the woods and on OUR property too, Jim!  Last fall we noticed quite the "pile".  Sent a pic to my brother and he confirmed, YUP, Bear!  While we were on vacation last October, we were gone for almost a month, and when we returned one of our neighbors had left a message on our answering machine indicating suspected bear in the area.  We went out to the apple tree.....not one apple on the tree or the ground.  Evidently they come down from the mountain behind us during the fall to steal apples.  Sneaky devils.

@Karen, here is a photo of what probably happened to your apples.

Bear climbing a tree in Idaho

This photo was taken before the previous bear pawed at the camera.  I am not sure which bear finally tore it off the tree.

@Anna, you have read my blogs before so you know my humor is not main stream.  I will have to check out your blog on the appraisal issues since I have had two come in low year already and the buyers were still willing to pay the spread.

@Karen, I have to be honest, the trail camera was closer than I was.  I must admit that my heart does skip a few beats whenever I hear something in the bushes since I have personally seen the following on this property:

  • Bear
  • Deer
  • Elk
  • Rattlesnakes
  • Bobcats
  • Fox
I have also seen tracks for cougar and just last night saw my first wolf track up there which was 3.5" wide and 4" long!

Never encountered a bear that wasnt in the zoo , but have to say given the opportunity I would like to see them in the wild ...from a distance of course.  ( J )

@Steve, great picture too!  That is the problem with bears, they think they can just show up without an invitation. :)

@Houston, aren't most agents you meet full of it?  If not, I bet off record you might admit they are at least full of themselves (which may or may not be the same thing).

@Allen, I remember seeing a grizzley bear walking close to road in Yellowstone.  I was the first to spot it and before long there was about 100 people out taking photos and watching.  A park ranger came and we watched for about 10 more minutes until it started walking toward us.  You could hear then tension in his voice as he grabbed his bear spray with one hand and put his hand on his holster ushering us all back into his cars.  When I realized the only guy with a gun and bear spray was nervous, I realized it probably was in fact time to move on!
