Google Flight Information

Google tells us everything else, why not flight information too! Recently Google added the capability to tell us all of the available flights between two cities. Lets take Seattle and Newark NJ (my home airport). If I use the keyword flights and then the two airport codes SEA and EWR, or a search specically like this

notice the results below (note: you have to click the + button to expand the results)

I like this new feature to see what your flight options are going to be. Whether or not they are booked, you have to head over to your favorite ticketing site.

Now what about flight tracking. It's your turn to go to the airport to pickup somebody, are they on time? Where are they now? Let's take Alaska 8 in the search results above and check in on the flight status, google search like

Well, it is 33 minutes late, but not too bad. If we follow the link to flightstats.com we can see more specifically it is over Wisconsin.

While I'm mentioning flight tracking, I'll also plug my favorite flight tracking site also, flightaware.com - it has terrific tracking info for flights and for any other aviation buffs out there you can pull up maps of airports and see all the current inbounds/outbounds. This graphic below is a moment in time of the US airspace where every red dot is was an airborne flight... wow!

So there you have it... a couple of google searches related to available flights and flight tracking! (plus some bonus fun aviation thoughts :)
