 In the Silicon Valley Garden

jpg Bright Edged Yucca

A very under rated and seldom seen plant for Mediterranean or Silicon Valley gardens is this Yucca Filamentosa 'Bright Edge' Yucca.  It's a small variegated succulent that displays a massive stalk of cream colored flowers in June.  Even without the burst of foliage the yellow-edged elongated Yucca leaves are beautiful.  It's self-propagating so each year at least one more plant and spike are added.  It takes full or partial sun, good drainage, and this one loves my Saratoga, CA home garden and vice versa.

Lloyd, this is a spectacular looking plant. You must have a green thumb - your garden looks professionally tended. One day, when I have more time, I will try to turn my sad looking garden into an oasis like yours.

Nice.  It's amazing what nature has to offer if you just allow it to do so for you.

Enjoy your garden.  Mine brings me much joy and happiness up the road from you in Redwood City.

Lloyd! Lovely Yucca! We have them as indoor plants, but they rarely will bloom. Someday, you'll take pix of your whole garden, not just one plant at a time! :D

Elizabeth, you're tending and nurturing the most important plants of all, and that takes time and careful attention.  You'll have plenty of time for gardening after they're on their own.  I have been told I have a Green Thumb, but if you plant enough plants eventually something works.  Even a blind squirrel finds the nut.

I didn't expect a comment until Fall.  You missed yesterday's post referencing you.  I didn't mention it earlier because: (1) I didn't think you'd mind, and (2) I wasn't sure how to alert you because I didn't think you'd be checking in for awhile.  I also left a comment for you about Stanford and Palo Alto which I hope you received.

I hope your parents, where ever they are--you won't tell me--see your children this summer.

My goodness, Lloyd - you all are so far ahead of us in blooms!  Our yucca pendula is about a month away from showing its graceful stalks!  They are an impressively showy plant (and even seem to take our wet weather very well).

Lloyd:

Nice Yucca.  You get a lot of sunny days which plants need.  Hope your weekend is productive and good.
