My Name is Johnny Canuck - Go Canucks Go

I couldn't resist posting about an event that is taking over our city.  As I sit in my nice, comfortable living room, in front of the flat screen t.v., there are over 10,000 fans in downtown Vancouver waiting for hockey history to unfold.

Yes, the Vancouver Canucks have a chance to finally walk away with the Stanley Cup trophy if they succeed in beating the Boston Bruins, a feat that has never been achieved by the history of this hockey team.  I have my fingers and toes crossed - oh heck, I'll admit it - I'm a human pretzel right now - anything to send good luck to this wonderful hometown team.

Here's a Youtube video that apparently has gone viral.  It's very clever, and I thought there may be some of you out there who would enjoy it.  It's called "My Name is Johnny Canuck".  Go Canucks Go!!!!!!!

Sally, too fun! My husband and his dad are watching it right now on the other side of the wall, so I know exactly what's going on! Great video!

Fred - Both!  Ahhhhh - I can't stand it.  Could the Canucks just tie it up already?!!!  Just one teensie, weensie little goal.  Seriously!

Glad to hear no Bruins fans in your vicinity.  Although I did have an internet scrum with Sharon Tara and her Bruins...  Go Nucks Go!

Peg - Oh, so you mean you have Xray vision and you're watching through the wall?  It's all those fresh veggies you eat!  I know, wasn't that video fun?  And an amateur videographer at that.

Going to take a huge effort from the Canucks in the third period. I'd love to see them get a couple of quick goals to really make it interesting.

Oh Laura - I actually don't think I can look anymore...  peeking through my fingers.  I have to give credit to Boston.  They are playing amazingly well.  That 3rd goal kind of sucked, though.  Blow raspberries at your husband for me!

John - Wouldn't that be great?  A couple of quickies, get ourselves back on track, and then one more goal for the win!  Alas, one can dream...

Fred - Ah well, you win some, you lose some, and hey, there's always next year.  (Poor Laura's husband!).  Unfortunately, downtown is now turning ugly - I can see the black billow of smoke from here on the North Shore.  Idiots rioting and looting.  Pretty disgusting.

Oh well Sally, there's always next year. If you say that often enough, you become a Leafs fan.

Sally,

it's too bad good sportsmanship wasn't the end result. That certainly helps with defeat.

Malcolm - Poor Leafs.  I used to be a flight attendant and had the whole Leafs team on a flight once.  It was early '90's.  They seemed like the nicest guys.  Ha!  I used to be a huge Nordiques fan, and look what happened to them!

Brian - It looked like a very ugly scene last night.  It's so sad that the actions of a few have tarnished this city.  Dispicable, really.  I can't imagine the state of downtown Vancouver right now.  Yes, what happened to good conduct and sportsmanship?  Very sad.

Fantastic video...I hadn't seen it.  I was also a pretzel last night, I totally know how you felt...wanting the win so badly and not seeing it happen.  Boston has been in that position too many times.  I remember Bobby Orr's goal back in '72 and my whole family screaming their heads off...this game brought back all the memories.

Sharon - Isn't that a creative video?  I love the bear at the end.  Hockey is a great game, so fast paced and strategic, with a little luck thrown in there sometimes.  Yeh, I don't know about you, but I'm a little sore this morning after the pretzel position...  The Bruins played an amazing game and we were simply outplayed.  I'm sad we lost, but I'm happy you won!  And of course, there's always next year... he he he.

Hi Sally....I don't get it, Vancouver and Boston Both were tied until Yesterday with 3 games a piece yet Vancouver Young Supporter downtown rioted...The Cunucks gave Vancouver a Huge Leg up on the World on TV by Winning all the games they did on TV just to get to Play in the Stanley Cup.

Now the Press, which I blame too focuses for hours on the rioting a few did last night..I think these guys should have to Pay for the Damage to the Stores etc or go to Jail and put that in the News.

Have a Great Day..there's always next season which starts in four months :O)

Fred - It's a very dark day in Vancouver today.  It's like the hockey game didn't even happen.  The whole focus is on a bunch of testosterone filled yobbo youth that thought it would be fun to destroy, loot and trash our beautiful city.  This is a case of a crowd of 100,000 people, most of whom started drinking in local bars a 11am, gathering dowtown and watching an outdoor screen.  Duh. A recipe for disaster.

What give me hope is that these idiots, who I don't even believe were there to watch the hockey game, but were all about the "after party", were stupid enough to get their photos captured on all sorts of technical devices, setting fire to cop cars, smashing and looting jewelry stores and department stores.  I feel sorry for the police who will no doubt be criticized down the road.

One can only shake their head in disgust.

What a shame that such a wonderful event and city had to be overshadowed by destructive acts. The Canuks did Vancouver and Canada proud during the series and then a negative element moves in to create destruction. It makes me angry to see all those horrible images going out around the world. I just don't get it. Too old I guess LOL.

Glad to hear you were not near the areas affected.

Janice - It seemed that society's lowest common denominator turned out to wreak havoc in the city.  Since everything went so well during the Olympics, crowds-wise, I think the city was lulled into thinking there wouldn't be any incidents after the game.  Boy, did they get that wrong!

The local newscasters were reporting live as events unfolded, and they spoke for everyone with their comments of disbelief, anger and horror.  In my opinion, the downtown spectators and voyeurs were just as bad, as they refused to leave the area, and instead "fuelled the fire" so to speak and gave the real hoodlums a desired audience.

I can't imagine what all that damage, wasted engergy and manpower cost the city, never mind its worldwide reputation as a nice place to visit!

David - The fools are actually dumb enough to post photos on their own Facebook of them looting or setting fires to cars.  Loads of citizens volunteered to come down and help clean up the mess.  But for the fact that some major department stores had boards instead of windows, you couldn't tell that much had gone array the night before.

My ex-hubby is a lawyer, and he has volunteered to prosecute offenders for free.  Good for him.  My 20 year old daughter was on the bus today and a kid she knows who's 19 was bragging about how he'd looted last night.  She gave him a lecture, and she said that all the people on the bus were nodding in agreement.  He got off at the next stop...

I like your tactic of hitting them in the pocket book.  I sure hope that happens here.  Either that, or throw them in jail and throw away the key!
