Agua Hedionda Lagoon Discovery Center in Carlsbad California

The Agua Hedionda Lagoon Discovery Center in Carlsbad is well worth a visit.

THe mouth of the Agua Hedionda Lagoon in Carlsbad

Carlsbad is blessed with 3 lagoons (Batiquitos, Buena Vista, and Agua Hedionda) - thankfully all preserved, especially important these days when we have seen so many California lagoons destroyed by development and other factors including environmental.

The Agua Hedionda Lagoon is in the middle, just north of the power plant and 1 mile south of Carlsbad Village, and actually consists of 3 areas - one with a fish hatchery and mussel/abalone aquaculture facility, one for recreational boating (the only lagoon in Carlsbad that allows boating), and the 3rd area to the east which ends in wetlands and the Discovery Center off Cannon Road.

The Agua Hedionda Discovery Center offers visitors a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the lagoon, the wildlife and vegetation, the preservation efforts, and more.

Hi Jeff, The first time I went there , I was so impressed , especially with the fish hatchery and the the involvement of the the adjacent parcel for the Poseidon Desalination plant. Have even even started construction as yet? I have been meaning to go up and write again about what has been so delayed by the environmentalists who keep filing law suits.

Jeff ~  It is so sad to see the lagoons being destroyed -- one of my favorite memories as a child is romping in the lagoon and feeling safe from the waves, dancing around and sitting in the shallow waters to play.

That really looks like a great place to go visit.  All the times I've been out there and never heard of this

Jeff,

I know little about your area, but you sure make it look appealing.

Jeff, nice job on the video as always.  I don't think there are any facilities that raise mussels around here, we just go down to the ocean and pull them off the rocks :)

The Aqua Hedionda Lagoon sounds like a great place to visit.  I did not know that you had 3 lagoons in Carlsbad.  I shall have to stop whizzing by on my way to San Diego and take a look.
