Happiness is a choice--make it!

Happiness is a choice--make it!

We all know that life is not perfect. Bad things happen to good people. We have health scares, we lose jobs, we lose people we love, we break things, we lose things, we make bad decisions, our children/parents/friends make bad decisions.  Stuff happens. That's life!

We cannot control (most of) the bad things that happen. All we can control is how we react to them.

We have free will. We can decide if we are going to happy, despite the bad things that come our way, or we can decide if we are going to be sad/angry/confused/immobilized by these things.

I am not saying to put on a smile and ignore everything that is bad. I am just saying that in most cases, the bad thing remains bad whether you are crying or smiling.

smiley faceWe are all human and need time to grieve. Take the time and come to terms with how you feel. But don't let the bad in your life take away your joy. Figure out a way to get it back and live your life with gusto!

Remember, happiness is a choice. You can choose to be happy, or you can choose to be sad. Why would you choose sad?

Make the choice to be happy!

Hi Holly:

I was reading an article the other day that that talked about only being able to control ourselves, not other people and that much of the unhappiness we experience is because we cannot control things or beings.  The moral of the story was "Not to care".  In other words don't attach your happiness to someone or thing else's outcome, detach yourself from it.  Love the person unconditionally and accept the situation for what it is and you will be alot happier and when you are happy amazingly the other people around you tend to mirror your behavior or mood so it makes them happier too.

Thanks for the post.

I think we all struggle with this to some extent.  Sometimes we worry so much about what we might loose that we do not focus on what we can gain or enjoy what we have.

It's been said a famous boxer once was quoted as saying "I'm either up or getting up, but I never stay down."

We all need to know, there will be times we get knocked down, but we just gotta get back up.

Thanks for sharing.  Short and to the point!

Yep - it certainly is. The main problem is that we need constant reminding. Thanks for the reminder!

I really like this post. I try to subscribe to this motto myself even to the annoyance of others. Hmmm, I guess they don't subscribe to this motto.

Breathe, relax, reboot. Oh, I tell myself that at least twice a day when the ol' blood gets boilin'. It's not always easy to just let things go or to not sweat the small stuff but you've got a good message in that you choose whether or not you let it consume you. Nice post Holly!
