Army's Birthday Gift to Soldiers

By
Real Estate Agent with EXP Realty, LLC

This week the Army is celebrating it's 236th Birthday.   Soldiers received a great birthday gift from the upper echelons - we are now allowed to wear the patrol caps in garrison for the first time in 10 years.    That was a DREAM come true gift.

Of course, there are some exceptions...so if you are in the Army don't don't throw your beret away.  You still need it.

 Black Beret

The black berets looked great on SOME people.  Unfortunately, I was not one of those people.  They were hard to shape.  They offered no protection from the sun.  They were hard to put on.  They were hard to shape.   So collectively,  we were very, very, very, very happy when told that we could start wearing the patrol caps in garrison.   The berets will still be worn with the dress uniforms.  That is fine.

This post will be the first in a series featuring Life on Fort Carson: the "Best Hometown in the Army."

Hi Sondra, 236th, that's quite a milestone. I used to love wearing those berets. They looked good with your dress uniform. Good to see the news about those patrol caps being allowed after 10 years.

Sondra, I was a military brat (both step-parents and my father were all in the army) and I didn't realize that their 236th birthday was coming up...thanks for writing this post! :)

I'm glad Sondra you get to wear what works best for you. I have always wondered on the berets which look nice of course how you shape them to fit properly. So many people outside the Army don't know all these things.

Hi Sondra,

I think the beret looks cute. :)  Just yesterday, Scott and I attended a friend's retirement ceremony from the Navy.  It was on the USS Olympia (a very old war ship) docked at Penn's Landing here in Philadelphia.  I loved the traditional parts of the ceremony but the best was the stories of our friend's 25 years of service and where the Navy took him.  There is a very special comradery in the armed forces.  God bless our service men and women!

Sondra,

I have to admit that I never understood why the Army when to the berets.  I remember being at USTRANSCOM when soldiers started wearing them - I'm retired Navy.  The berets always looked so hot.  Happy Birthday!
