Ever since I moved to Altadena I have been a frequent visitor to the Altadena Public Library on Mariposa and Santa Rosa. I have found the library to have a good selection of fiction (my not-so-secret vice) and a reasonable collection of non-fiction. The library staff have always been friendly and helpful, in my experience a combination not frequently found in public employees. The parking is usually adequate and the building itself is architecturally fascinating.
Today I received a notice by email letting me know that the library has scheduled a special event:
Event: Men of Mystery Date: Monday, October 15 Time: 7:00 pm
Location: Altadena Library Community Room
Two mystery writers, Academy Award winner, camera man & chef Robert Fate and screen writer, producer & physicist Bruce Cook, will discuss their writing, careers and the transition from film to books. This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Hope to see you there!
I don't know if the library's computer system is so sophisticated that it knows I am a reader of mysteries or if all patrons got this notice. In either case, it got me looking to see what other events might be scheduled. This is what I found.
Event: In-N-Out Food for Thought Reading Program
Date: Sat., Oct. 13 -- Sat., Nov. 24 Location: Both libraries
Children ages 4-12 who check-out and read five library books and record the titles on their reading log will receive a certificate for a free hamburger or cheeseburger from In-N-Out Burger. Participants may earn up to three burger certificates during the program.
