As a baseball fan, you just have to say thanks in your own way sometimes

It was 1925, when Carson  “Skeeter” Bigbee played in the World Series and anyone who saw that game is more than likely no longer with us. But Bigbee like so many others of his time, not only gave of himself on the field but off as well.

Don't forget those past sports heroes!

You see Carson Bigbee was a great ball fan voting he is #1265 of all time batters in the major leagues. May not seem great, but if you think how many have played in the past 100 years, that number is pretty darn good in my book. (Plus, how many can say they played in the World Series)

But, Skeeter did something else, he joined the military. Not something you see many professionals today do when they have a successful sports career. So thank you Carson for being a great ball player, but also a real hero, someone kids could look up to.

That is really something to be proud about.  Baseball and Military! I love them both.

In recent history the sports fan most recognized for his service is most likely Pat Tillman, who lost his life to friendly fire.

Todd, there are a few with this allegiance intact, be it sports or other endeavors but their numbers are surely dwindling.

Todd, Great post.  Many of us wonder what numbers Ted Williams may have put up had he not served in the military during his career.

Todd, Great blog on honoring a "True Hero". Those who played sports and honored our country with military service are HIGH in my book.

Todd,

#1265  I'm impressed!

I don't follow baseball, but how many of us will be remembered for any thing we've done?

Todd - I have never heard of him. But playing in a world series and all time batting at #1265 he must have been pretty good.

Immediately thought of Pat Tillman. 1265 is huge! Cool tribute to a good ball player and a better American.

Such a great thing to share with young avid ball players...it is not all about the game is it in life & Carson certainly showed that to people of his generation...Happy Father's Day Todd!

Such a contrast between the early 20th century heroes who served and many of the selfish, greedy athletes of today. This would be a great topic for someone like Ken Burns.
