Science of Boozing... or How to Get Featured

I checked what time it is, as time is the key to this post, - and it is already Sunday.

I read about this fascinating research a very long time ago. Scientists decided to find out what exactly causes people to get drunk. So, they combined gin & tonic and tested it. People got drunk.

Then they tried whiskey & tonic, and people got drunk.

And then they tried:

Brandy & tonic

Science of Boozing

Vodka & tonic

Science of Boozing

Rum & tonic

Tequila & tonic

Science of Boozing

and each time people, who tested the stuff, got drunk.

Because tonic was the only constant component in all those mixes, the research concluded that alcohol was in tonic.

I remembered it when I was reading a blog post (reblogged a few times, I believe) about when it is the best time to post on AR so that it gets featured.

Guys, posting time is tonic secondary. To get drunk featured, there should be booze feature worthy post. Sorry, but no matter how much tonic we drink, or how elaborate is the schedule when we drink it, it is not tonic that gets us drunk... and it is not the timing of posting that gets the blog featured

But if you believe in science, then do not drink tonic and drive...

P.S. If this post is not featured, that means that my timing was off.

Oh, well. I guess I had too much tonic in the evening...

People are way too caught up in the "featured post" thing. If you have something of value to share, then share it. If you are "In" with the cool kids, there is a chance it will be featured. Remember, we're here to express ourselves, and grow OUR business, not AR's.

Ron - you are shifting the accents, and rightfully so. I do not believe there is science here, and I like the assumption that the post was feature worthy to begin with. Timing does not make it feature worthy.

Jon, Unless you have access to the people and process of featuring, I don't know how you can make such statements. Your guess is as good as anyone else's.

Scientists make a lot of observations and then try to come up with theories to explain their observations.

I have observed enough poorly written features to disprove your theory that the key to being featured is to write good content.

But your idea of alcohol might tie into the timing theory and explain the featuring of some pretty bad posts. Maybe they are submitted when the featuring god has had a few too many drinks.

Jon - there are times, if you post to high volume groups, such as Realtors, that you have very little chance of being seen and read because your post scrolls of the page very quickly. That being said, I have substituted selzer for tonic, and I still have the same results.

Tim - I will gladly change it for you. The probability of content having priority over timing is INO much higher.

Now, the question of what is featured and what is not is very subjective, and may have other considerations besides iterest for the majority of readers (I have no clue why they, for example, feature my post about a condo-hotel, as I myself would never have done it), but it is still most probably not timing, but other considerations.

When members start trying to figure the timing and not the worthiness (no matter how subjecting), they are on the losing path.

But at the end of the day, too much tonic is the culprit anyway

Jon, Here's my proof about feature posts not needing to have such great content. I have nothing bad to say about the post but why is this one worthy of being featured? I imagine that the person in charge at the time thought that a rock band camp was pretty cool so he made it a feature. Maybe he had a few drinks at the time or maybe he used to play in a band.

My point is that your content doesn't need to be great to be featured. Instead, you need to find out the preferences of the person in charge of featuring and then write with that in mind.

Enough to say, that I would have never picked this one. Maybe it is a decent Localism post, but nothing worth of recognition and discussion

So, I understand what you are saying, but I still do not see the timing as the crucial parameter
