Just Do It
Are you as smart as a chipmunk? You may not be as cute and fuzzy, but you might learn something from this little guy. He's figured out that approaching strangers and asking for what he wants is a good way to get it.
In my last post, I talked a little bit about a motivation and persistence. This is the followup. When it comes to prospecting, just do it. If you don't like the "prospecting" word, replace it with networking.
As the chipmunk at the zoo demonstrates, prospecting works best in person. The chipmunk decided he/she likes hanging out at the zoo. When he sees someone that might give him a treat, he simply walks right up to them and engages them. Worst case scenario, there will be no treat for the chipmunk. The same principle applies to our business. You've just got to do it.
From my last post:
This chipmunk, at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado Springs, knows what he wants. He wants a treat. In this picture he is expectantly waiting for me to give him a treat. Does he get a treat from every person he approaches? Probably not. But, this fearless chipmunk has a plan. If he runs up to almost every prospect and looks cute, chances are he is going to acquire lots of treats over the course of a day.
Moral of the story: Decide what you want. Don't be scared to approach new prospects.
