There are no 10 Commandments of Real Estate. But if there was I'm sure Thou Shalt Not Covet Your Buyer's Purchase would make the top five! Sometimes that really can be tough for a REALTOR! Especially when the buyers are considering your dream property!
The past few days I had the opportunity to show properties in downtown Oklahoma City. We toured The Hill, Block 42, and Maywood Park. I was absolutely thrilled! As I headed out the door, our office manager reminded me of that unspoken real estate commandment with a wink and a smile. She had to do that because she knows that my dream home/lifestyle is downtown.
Everyone has a "Dream Home." For alot of people I that have met and sold homes to, it includes a large home with acres of land. Not me. I dream of a more urban lifestyle. One without a yard to maintain, that's a short walk to a coffee shop or cafe.
I think most people relocating to Oklahoma imagine a home on the plains and don't think that an urban lifestyle is even available here in Oklahoma City. Well, I'm here to tell you it is! In downtown Oklahoma City you can live in a loft, a condo, or a townhouse. If you work downtown, you could live close enough to ride your bike to the office and stop for dinner at Spaghetti Warehouse in Bricktown on the way back home.
The homes we toured all had a very similar set up on multiple levels. All had a bedroom and bathroom on the ground floor, kitchen and living on the second, and bedrooms (either one or two) on the third. A few also had access to a private rooftop terrace (tell me that doesn't sound divine). I know, your thinking Kristyn, that sounds like a lot of stairs! I've got you covered, ELEVATORS! Many of the properties either already have elevators in place or the builder left a space where one could be added down the road! Brilliant!
As for the interior design, there was something for everyone. As you can imagine, we saw some contemporary design. They had bamboo floors, minimal cabinets with very clean lines, and extraordinary light fixtures. Which I really liked. But I know, it's not for everyone. There were also some that felt like a luxury home right out of Gaillardia, with carved wood cabinets, ornate chandeliers and classic finishes and colors. So, there really is something for every taste.
For me, urban living will have to wait a few more years while my daughter finishes high school here in Edmond. But for you, the time might be now. If it is, give me a call and let's take a look. I promise not to covet your purchase...too much! Hey by the way, I had so much fun touring downtown that I snapped a few pictures and shot a bit of video.
