Elk River Library Settled In...

By

The Elk River Public Library relocated to it's new spot across from the City Hall and Lake Orono in October of 2007. At the grand opening event we were amazed at the size, the eco-friendly atmosphere and the children'elk river librarys section that ensued from the move. There was some 'concern' to the distance it sat from our true downtown areas and whether this spot was a good choice or not for the community library.

Truthfully, I was skeptical in the beginning as well. But, I quickly learned, and have greatly come to appreciate it's new location. Yes, it's twice the distance from any of the local schools and across a major highway from most things local, but there is much to be thankful for.

The library building that once was has turned into a senior 'hub' that is rocking the city. They are busier than a full time daycare any day of the week offering classes, exercise equipment, social activities and much more for our older generations. They have turned a tired building into a mass of activity and are growing by leaps and bounds.

The 'new' building is settled near the city offices, but also amongst several large neighborhoods. The sidewalks, bike racks and local walking park are widely appreciated by many traveling to and from the library during all seasons. It is a hop and a skip and a jump from the local Y and really not so far away from everything now that we are used to it's new location.

For us, personally, the new library building is on our way anywhere. We love that! I never dreamed that I would (or could) learn to appreciate my library card so much. But, with the great selection of books, movies and resources... we don't have to order in Netflix or on-demand cable. We have mastered the art of inter-library loans and waiting lists, but it adds to the excitement!

After so many years at it's new location... I have come to love my library. I am a true supporter of their library offerings and story times and we are always more than willing to send folks there direction! It's what brings funding for them to bring in new resources. So, if you haven't checked out the local library then make sure to make it happen... adventure is a good thing. And, if you are looking to move into the area give me a call!

Lindsey, I don't know why more people don't really use the public libraries.  Our brand-new one in St. Michael is always busy, and it is located in the same building as the Senior Center and City Offices and so is very convenient, very large and very bright.

Have a great week!
