Rainy Days and Mondays......

It hardly seems like a summer day when it starts like this.  Woke up to rain and 50 degrees.  In June.  In Colorado!

Us Coloradans love to brag about our 300+ days of sunshine per year.  But 2011 is just not cooperating!

Instead, I'm going to "make lemonade"...

3 Great Things About This Rainy Monday:

  1. I don't have to water my garden.  About 2 years ago, we had major water restrictions around here.  We had been experiencing an ongoing drought and lawns and gardens tended toward a color that was closer to straw than grass.  Needless to say, my vegetable crop was less than impressive.  But, here we are on June 20 and CHECK OUT my garden's progress:
  2. garden in the rain with lettuce, straw berries, beets You can see spearmint in the foreground, with strawberries and then lettuce at the back.
Making its appearance to the left are beets, and a row of carrots is poking through.

I've never had such great luck with seeds until this years rainy spring!

2.  We get to ski until JULY 4th!  How amazing is that?  Arapahoe Basin tries every year to stay open until the 4th of July- sometimes with mixed results.  Only truly hardcore skiers and boarders can be seen on a year when snowpack is low and there are more rocks than ski slopes.
This year, A Basin will open every weekend and for 4 days over the 4th.  Right now there is 6 inches of snow on the picnic tables at the base of the mountain- wow!

3. Catch-up.  Much as I'd like to snuggle up with a book and a latte, I do have plenty of paperwork... and blogging!.... to do.  So, today you'll find me getting out from under Administration Mountain.

And maybe by the weekend, I can pick a fresh salad and head up to A Basin!

Jennifer...it was unseasonably cool here this past weekend, rainy, windy and about 68 degrees. It was actually pretty enjoyable. We had 7 baseball games this weekend and the cooler weather was nice.

Nice stormy Monday here too!  But like you said, we don't have to water our gardens today :)

We, too had a very rainy winter/spring, but, our temperate weather has returned!  Currently 70 degrees & 65% humidity... glad to see your veggies growing nicely, Jenn.

Kim- 7 games?  wow!  It is always better to have it cool and cloudy when you are out there all day.... but the rain can be a challenge when you are trying to play!

Bliz- when I looked outside this morning, my greens really popped out against the grayness of the day.  I am so excited!

Ralph- Thank you- don't you just love camera phones?  :)

BzyBee (Deborah)- Gotta try to look on the bright side.... even when it's not so bright out, haha!

Peggy- That's pretty darn humid.  At least it isn't 90 degrees and humid!  I'll bet your garden is pretty happy, too. :)

David- dingdingding!! You got it!  I should've embedded a Carpenters video...  I always think of that song when it's a rainy Monday.  I'm such a 70s child!

Brenda- Thank you, you too!

Aren't you a clever girl?!  No garden for us.  We have deer periodically rummaging through our backyard.  Sometimes our shrubs don't even survive.

We were in Texas over the weekend with 100+ degree temps and NO rain.  Came home last night and it was drizzling and just 61 degrees.  It's good to be home!
