Summertime is upon us. In Phoenix we are seeing temperatures up to 107 right now, and the focus of valley residents seems to be keeping cool in the desert heat. Working on one’s home may outrank taking a dip in the pool and summers in Arizona are sizzling, so use this time to sizzle up your home’s appearance with these 5 suggestions:
1. Get an A/C tune-up
Although later than most contractors recommend, now is a perfect time to get your air conditioning unit inspected to make sure it is running efficiently. This check-up could lead to recommendations that will lower your monthly utility bill, an envelope we tend to dread during the hot summer months
2. Get some outdoor furniture
Most stores have sales running right now and you can update or replace old sets that no longer cutting it. This is less about home value and more about “creature comforts”.
3. Install exterior lights
Kids love to play outdoors, and with the evenings being substantially cooler than afternoons, they tend to stay outside longer playing, often until sunset. Having proper exterior light illuminatingtheir activities is both a good way to make sure they see what they are doing and for you to keep tabs on them.
4.Window treatments, blinds, and screens – oh my! T
hese will not only make your home look nicer, but also keep it cooler, once again reducing that pesky electric bill.
5. Redo your appliances or countertops
This might be the most unusual-sounding suggestion, but stop and think about it for a moment. In the summertime people tend to cook less, as they want to keep their already hot homes cooler. By cooking less there isn’t at much on your countertops and the stovetop won’t be used as much, making it possible to swap these things out if desired.
