I've Been MeMe-ed by Dionne Morgan -

By
Real Estate Agent with Charles Rutenberg Realty

Well, let's see, I have seen enough of these so I think I can figure this out, but what is there to share that I have not already posted in my blogs???

First of all, how about I was pretty fluent in Slovak as a wee one, since my Grandmother Tomecko (my mother's mom) took care of me when mom was at work and Grandma came to this country when she was 15 from what is today the Slovak Republic (it was the Austro-Hungarian Empire when she was born)! Since my parents were never fluent in the language (3 grandparents were Slovak) I lost the language when we moved to Florida - I was in the third grade when we moved here -

Second - When I was 15 I poured pure hydrogen peroxide on my hair and went out in the yard and took a sun bath - my hair turned the color of a brand new copper penny and my Dad almost murdered me when he got home and saw it - I was given 24 hours to make it dark again -

Third - Once after picking my mother up at the airport in Paris and heading to the Bretagne for vacation I popped the back window half out on the car's hatch-back trunk because I had so many suitcases in there and when it would not close I simply slammed it harder - a nice Frenchman at a garage fixed it - nothing broke, it popped out along the rubber on the side - (boy was I lucky)

Fourth - Once on vacation in Padua in Italy, as I was about to take my kids into another church to look at the architecture my 5 year old son screamed in German "Not Another Church"!!! and pulled to stop me in my tracks! They were pretty tired of seeing every church, museum and anything else I could find that was historical or architecturally interesting -

Fifth - When I was having a special dinner with all of the relatives from near and far at my great aunt's home in Krizovany, in the Slovak Republic I helped myself to something that was really tasty - then I asked what it was and couldn't eat anymore - it was fried goose blood with onions and spices and some innards!!!! That was embarrassing and really gross!!!!

So now you have my 5 meme's!!!!

Wow Barb, it seems like you've done a lot of traveling!  I love to hear about people's travels, probably because I don't.

As to the perioxide on your hair, I guess that is right up there with baby oil at the beach!

Thanks for sharing!

Kathy - I lived in Europe for 17 years, so when you consider that, it is not such a big deal - it is like going from Tampa to Daytona Beach as far as distances go -

And when I was a kid we did the baby oil with Mercurochrome in it too - seems that today nobody under the age of 30 has even heard of Mercurochrome -

I just learned that mercurochrome was banned years ago because of the mercury it contained...... is that why I glow in the dark????

mercurachrome!  Wow, we did that, too, but it was Betadine (is that the same thing?)--must be right up there with jumping off really high bridges into gator-infested waters...and I used to use a solution of chamomile tea, lemon juice, and hydrogen peroxide to 'brighten' my hair...

What a varied and intersting life you've led, Barbara Jo!  Thanks for sharing!

Loretta - My mother used to compare me to her mother - the one who came here at age 15 - her family remained in Europe, she came with her brother and it was to be a vacation - she hid when they had to go back - her brother returned without her -

Barb-your family sounds like mine--we have a picture of my great-grandmother which looks identical to my mother!  Gotta love those genes...

Can you even imagine what it must have been like to stow away in a different country?!  wow...

Barb,  first thanks for a prompt response to my nomination. It was fun tagging you. Don't forget to tag three more folks.

Thanks for sharing a little bit of your family history. I am so sorry to hear you lost the language. I'm sure you have some pleasant memory of talking with your Grandmother Tomecko in her native tongue. You simply have to be able to practice it regularly or unfortunately you lose it.

Living in Florida must have it benefits. It is a gateway to the world for those that enjoy flying or sailing. Soundslike you have taken advantage of it and seen some great places.  Take care.

Loretta - Guess that was why mom always compared me to her mom - when I took off to Germany at age 23, all I could say was Guten Tag and Auf Wiedersehen! Amazing how fast you can learn when you have no choice!!!

Dionne - I already did that tag! On the same day!!! Actually, while I was in Germany I took a couple of semesters of Czech (which I have since lost) and some words were similar to Slovak. I also took a couple of semesters of Russian (again, if you don't use it, you loose it) and again, a couple of words were similar-

Life - it is an amazing process - so much to learn, so much to see and do - and time flies by so quickly!

Wow, I am learning more and more about you everyday! (Pretty cool too!!!!)

I, too, love hearing about your travels because I'm not one myself, so that's very interesting!

I really cracked up at the hatchback story.  I can almost picture that. Sounds like something that should've been on National Lampoon's European Vacation!!!

Nikki - Yeah, I guess it is that 'fly by the seat of my pants' thing that usually gets me in trouble - spontaneity - I think that word was invented with me in mind -
