July 1st, Canada Day is just around the corner.  2011 marks Canada's 144th birthday.

As always there are many Nanaimo events and activities in the summer.  Canada Day activities in Nanaimo will not disappoint you.   I thought I would highlight some of the activities planned for the July 1stlong weekend in Nanaimo and surrounding areas.

Canada Day - Maffeo Sutton Park - FREE

Canada Day activities in and around NanaimoSpend the day at Maffeo Sutton Park.  The event starts with the formal parade of flags and opening ceremony. The park combines a wonderful waterfront location, with energetic entertainment, roving clowns, face painting, multicultural foods and fun for the whole community. Canada Day activities near Nanaimo-

Parksville - The Rotary Club of Parksvillehas planned a 2011 edition of Canada Day celebrations that promises to be the best ever with a full day of entertainment that delivers something for everyone.  This is a full day event beginning with a parade in the morning and ending with Thrifty Foods Fireworks Show at dusk.  In between there's a full day of games and family events , Go Karts, kite flying demonstrations and a wide selection of food, arts and craft vendors.

Ladysmith - Celebrate Canada's birthday with a day of fun, sun & music at Transfer Beach. Family oriented activities. Hours 10:00 - 4:00
