Help repairing and preparing estates for sale in Greenwich CT. 1950's fixtures: All the rage or, all the age?
Yesterday I had a meeting with an executor of an estate in Greenwich, CT. Her aunt had recently passed away and she was tasked with closing down and clearing out the estate. Dealing with the clutter and disrepair was quite overwhelming for her, so we got the call.
The smallish mid-century home (by Greenwich CT. standards) was typical of what I see in my line of work. Cluttered rooms indicative of the semi hoarding behavior many seniors seem to exhibit as they age. There were dated, dingy, run-down interior spaces. Maintenance clearly had been neglected inside and out, for many, many years.
Calling us in was the right thing to do. There was a great deal of work to be done to clean up the house and bring the home closer to today's standards. 1950's kitchen's are not as popular as they once were, say in the 1950's. The water views, while a great selling point, were completely lost in the curling Formica sadness. Normally I would insert a gruesome photograph here, but the client asked that I do not take pictures in certain rooms. Yeah, it was that bad.
We have a vast database of craftspeople and service providers to spruce up the place. We have outlets to sell, donate or disburse the clutter. Who ya gonna call?
These situations are always so sad. It's such a heartbreak to see how people end up living their last years. It's a cute house, hope it finds a new family!
There is a neighborhood here where everyone needs to be told that 1950s kitchens are sooo yesterday.
Sharon, I am guessing the residents were just fine with their familiar surroundings.
Russel, They were all the rage in '59, after that there was work to be done.
I could have used you ten years ago when I bought my condo. It was an estate sale and a mess, and every wall was covered with peeling wallpaper. It was a mess, but it came at a very good price, and family and friends helped clean it up, remove the wallpaper, and paint. All they required were six packs of beer and lots of pizza. Cheap labor.
Eric, We have been known to work for beer and guitars by the bonfire at the end of the day. I am glad to hear you got the condo cleaned up and livable without too much expense. Must clients here prefer to hand us cash and get the whole mess over with. I have done one small place in exchange for the tools in the garage.
