My Uncle Al turned 88 years old this week, and is one remarkable guy. It was just last week that my Cousin Maria told me her Father had a Cardioverter Defibrillator implanted.
This week, he flew from his San Diego home to where he and I and most our branch of the Brozowski (that's his shortened spelling) clan were born, Chicago. His objective was to visit all the people and places he remembers, and he was accompanied on this visit by 3 of his grandchildren, who also live in the San Diego area.
Since I am the oldest of the nieces, I got a few questions from my cousin Rose, who still lives in the Chicago area. Did I know anything about our parents' cousin Anne? Thanks to an old address book and the computer, I found a listing for this 87 year old cousin, and they are going to try and contact her.
A more touching mission was to visit his only living sibling, my Aunt Ceil, who is in a nursing home. A younger relative advised him not to visit her, since she was not recognizing anyone, but Rose and I thought it was something we would want to do if we were in Uncle Al's place, because this could be the last time he would see his sister.
I have been promised reports from Maria and Kate, her niece who took the trip, and look forward to hearing about this adventure by a member of "The Greatest Generation," a WW II sailor and retired member of the El Cajon Police Department, who also moonlighted as a Realtor! And who is the cute baby in the picture? Modesty prevents me from answering.
