Customer Service - Your Expected Wait time is.....

Today as my business partner and I were working on a few company files he realized that the state tax revenue department must have conflicting  tax information.   We received a letter stating that it was URGENT that we call them immediately to review our 'non-existent' company file.  What?  How could that be?  I was beginning to think I was in the middle of another short sale file and you know how much fun can be.

Our first thought was to go online, and see what's up.  All appeared just fine to both of us. Taxes had been paid, as usual so what could possibly be the problem? This wasn't making any sense.  But hey you don't want to mess with the tax people, now do we? No way!

Next step - give them the URGENT CALL they requested to 'fix' whatever issue existed.  He picked up the phone, made the call and low and behold was told "Your Expected Wait Time is 144 minutes". We both looked at each other in a confused way and said - what?  Did we hear that correctly?  So we waited a bit longer and the message now said.............

"Your Expected Wait Time is 148 minutes"

So let me get this straight. We should wait on the phone for 2 Hours and 28 minutes?

I think not!!! Have you ever heard such a ridiculous wait time before?  Talk about lousy customer service. If we responded to our clients in such a fashion they'd be shopping elsewhere and should be.  Good grief! Of course this our government we're talking about here - but even so - its beyond crazy to me!

Have you ever heard such a ridiculous wait time before?

Absolutely not!  That is craziness.  Your wait time was so long because of all the URGENT messages that they sent out :)!  Sounds like something you can add to my customer service rant I had a couple of weeks ago :).  If it's that major, they will call you!  Lots of luck!

Brenda - it is crazy. Everything has been fine for a very long time.  Must be some new person messing with the system is all I can figure.

Sharon - so true.   But it was kind of funny to both of us.  Huh????  Your wait time is 144 minutes!!

Karen - well there is that here in AZ too!

Christine - you in their right mind would stay onhold for 2 1/2 hours?

oh my, that does indeed sound like a short sale. They (IRS) should allow people to leave their phone number for a callback. Our DMV and Social Security offices do that and it's wonderful! Good luck in clearing that one up!

Only 148 minutes?  That sounds like the government is getting efficient.  It's kind like the Paper Reduction Act.  Just think how much paper we'd be under without that efficient piece of legislation!!  Oy vey!

Cynthia - and this was just the state tax people!  Seriously - they leave call back numbers, not here that I'm aware of.

Mike - hahahaha  Ah yes the paperwork reduction act - how could we forget?

There are times I have been on hold for that  amount of time or it seemed like 2 1/2 hours ....but never experienced being told of a 144 minute wait.

I wonder how long the wait would have been if the matter was NOT urgent...

148 minutes?  Wow! Are you sure it wasn't Bank of America you were calling??  Apparently you weren't the only one that got the "urgent" letter!

Ugh!  Ridiculous.  I guess it wasn't quite so urgent now was it?  As a Realtor today, my clients expect me to answer the phone immediately and if I don't, I better not make them wait.  These government folks would never make it in our crazy world.

Wow, I can't believe that enough callers stayed on the line to get the wait time up that long...or do you think that they just randomly pick a large number and then just laughingly take a few calls as people hang in there? (I might be a bit of a conspiracy theorist...!) :-)

I wonder if the wait was that long if you pressed 2...

I hope that 140 minutes didn't take you through lunchtime - or the end of the day... Was it a toll free number that the taxpayers paying for? Crazy...

Margaret it wasn't urgent by any means! They had our address mispelled but you'd think they'd go by the EIN#!!

John LOL

Bridget - let's not even get started with big banks and short sales!!!!

Joni - gee it free if you don't count ones valuable time.

Belinda - my goal is to get back asap within 5 minutes to an hour in response to calls. No they'd be fired!

Karen....could be!  One way for them to get out of working that day.  Inside joke for them...or maybe candid camera...remember that show?

Bruce....we didn't bother. Hello who's got that time to mess around. Not me!

Connie!  Me too!  But not a chance would I be waiting anywhere near that kind of time.
