Roasting The Rain

Services for Real Estate Pros with Auto & Home & Life Insurance throughout North Carolina

Considering July 17th is coming up here real soon, I wanted to write about something Real-Estate oriented on this fine evening.   Because on the 17th of this July, I turn 35 and plan on roasting the living hell out of my imperfections.  I want that blog to be so disheartening to my soul that I'll write it from the corner of a now unfinished basement with a match and can of gasoline nearby.  But in the meantime, writing about Real Estate is pretty tough.  Especially a tough & cumbersome task since I'm no longer collecting bounced checks and sleeping with blow-up dolls.  Yeah, I used to be in the Mortgage Business.

And I also still log onto Active Rain every day of my life.  I can't say a bad word about it or the Members, unless of course ... I actually do some thinking.  I was originally going to make this Member's Only because I didn't want anyone reading of the Public Nature to get the wrong idea about these Real Estate Professionals, however I think it is important that we are able to see these folks for what they truly are.  Not just a Chris Hanson Christmas Special or paycheck earned because your corpse could qualify for a mortgage, but these are Real People.  They have Real Thoughts, Real Experiences, & Real Issues.

Take, for example, two Search Engine Optimization "Experts" fighting for whatever the hell they are fighting for.  Sorry to end a sentence with a preposition, yet if I'm hiring anybody to make my context (as bad as it often times is) more accessible to anyone on a Search Engine ... I would hope that "Expert's" reputation isn't akin to that of Attilla The Hun.  And speaking of Type A Personalities, they are fun to watch ... as is Maury, Jerry, and certain parts of New Jersey when the sun goes down.

Never will I forget the post that was the untimely & early eulogy of Active Rain.  I thought it was a well-written piece of prose by a perhaps bitter man who wanted to burn more bridges than the average chap could shake a lawyer at.  The comments that followed were both philosophical & comical.  When I first came upon this forum back in 2006 or something, I figured the average age of most of the contributors to be around 55 or so.  In retrospect, the average IQ is much lower.

New Leadership, New Voices, New Plungers to get out the feces ... AR has a big tale to tell.  And the large egos, loud voices, and suction cups they call members will continually ravage the consumer with a bunch of "Trust Me" tell-alls.  And now that I'm a consumer who can't realistically buy a home until sometime in 2021, I'm a number two.

But I don't take shit.  And I won't piss in the sink and trust the draining.

I'll continue to come to this site as a former member of the frat, continual member of the community, and a chap who really trusts and likes the voices that abound.  Issues or not, I kind of like most of you people...

..... well, some of you.

Jason--You're making me feel even older than I am. My marriage is almost older than you! My wife & I will hit #29 on July 17th. Sometimes it feels like we've been together forever and other times, it just doesn't seem possible that it's been that many years. But on most days any more, I feel even older than I am. Thanks for adding to my depression!! Try to enjoy the birthday, if you're like me, I still thought of myself as about 25 up until I broke the big 5-0. Then I started to accept that I wasn't 25 any more. Enjoy your day.

Jason. I have hangovers older than you. AR has certainly had it's fair share of blog battles over the years. In fact it was one of those battles that gave birth to Blogging Bertha, may she rest in peace. AR also had members pulling bank ground checks on the XBroker.......fucking idiots!!

But as the lemmings that we are we shall just keep edging closer and closer to the edge of sanity. Starting from the insane position makes the journey much more adventurous. Don't ya think?

Jason, I'll never understand the out and out SEO flame wars I've seen.  The net result of them is I'd be adverse to using either party.  The scorched earth policies just don't win my confidence.  And I can get along with MOST anyone, but their are a few profiles I won't seek out and would just as soon not see on my posts.  Bill

Damn! You commented on the preposition problem so now I'm at a loss for words.  Don't hate me for that!  Spell checked.

Jason - I'm with Bill and have also witnessed some of the seo blog wars!  I knew those would never end well.  I still get amazed at some of the crap that some people rage about around here. Oh well, such is life in the rain.

Having survived a few AR battles myself, I am wiser for it albeit a little weary of some of the absolutely ridiculous nonsense that goes on around here.  I've said it before and I'll say it again, "some days, AR reminds me so much of high school".

These days, I try and play well with a few of the other kids who seem really cool and nice to hang out with.  Most days though, I'm just off in my little corner doing my own thing and just try not to kick up too much sand in the sandbox while I'm at it.  On that note, here's my contribution to the post.

It's High School and it Sucks

I guess I don't read those SEO posts too much anymore.  It sounds like I've missed some drama.  I'd love to have you link to the best ones.  I love a good discussion.

Someone should come out with a weekly list highlighting the most contentious posts of the week.  I love watching a thunderstorm instead of just an all day drizzle.

35 "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times; it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness; it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity; it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness; it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair; we had everything before us, we had nothing before us; we were all going directly to Heaven, we were all going the other way."

I remember 35 well! Dickens explains it.

If you really want to crash the system instead of a roast how about streaming video of Jennifer getting married?

Jason, I like to watch the skirmishes from the perifery kind of like the Aristocrats used to do at the field of battle---picnics and all. :)

Having children your age, I will share this idea: however you think it is, is usually how it is.

And that's my big conclusion in my older age... and I am applying it to the notion that I, too, won't be able to buy a home again until @ 2021...but I'm just not buying that!

birthdays are irrelephant...

Nice comment and pretty astute wisdom, Mara:)

Buell - While I'm not usually a fan of Aristocrats, petty battles are even less appealing to me.  Unless I'm involved.  And then they are important and stuff;)

Bill - Your wish may soon be the command I post by.  Soon enough ...

Tim "Someone should come out with a weekly list highlighting the most contentious posts of the week.  I love watching a thunderstorm instead of just an all day drizzle."  That sounds like something that I might like to do.  Then again, that would make me the poor man's version of TMZ on AR.  I'll think about it.

Donne - I dig your contributions.  While I have not heard of that particular musical, makes me miss High School even less, but still laugh at it at the same time.  You can learn a lot from being a dummy.  I'll probably say that same thing 20 years from now.

Cathy - I rarely edit.  And it shows.  But I do know good grammar and spelling vs. the not so good.  My voice just doesn't have a high IQ, that's all.

Bill - We are alike in many ways.  I agree.    And I'm glad to see that you have become one of the more prominent names recognized around this place ... well deserved.  Despite us being alike and all;)

Missy - That I do.  It's a loyalty thing or something.

BB - I recall the Blogging Bertha fiasco.  You folks can seriously turn baked beans into clear waters in the morning.  "Lemmings" and "Fucking" from you on the same post ... I'm impressed.  For the record, I could not respect you more.

Woltal - Thank you, Sir.  That means more than the smoke I can blow up your ass to articulate.  You will always remain one of my favorite reads, edgy or not.

Nobody really, Leslie.  I was just bored and wanted to write.  And I went off what I read around here in the past few months.  I kept it short, like my attention span.
