Calgon, Take Me Away...

Calgon, Take Me Away...

I'm sure this dates me somewhat. I believe that commercial ran back in the 70's.  Mom would lock herself in the bathroom with a tub full of Calgon bath bubbles and feel transported to another place and time. A peaceful place without the hassles of everyday life.

So, I'm shouting 'Calgon, Take Me Away'.  Take me somewhere with cooler temperatures, some place where cellphones have NO towers, someplace where I can sleep in if I want to, drink coffee until noon and then finish the day off with a nice bottle glass of wine. I can lounge around and read or put on my hiking shoes and spend the day hiking in the cool of the woods.

My dear Active Rain friends...I need your suggestions.  Hubby and I only have about 5 days/4 nights to get away. I'd like to find a lovely place with cool temperatures, sunny skies and just a wonderful laid back kind of atmosphere.  Go ahead, I'm listening...give me some great ideas!

You'll be in for a very pleasant surprise if you visit Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It's been recognized at least twice as the nation's most livable city. The city is located at the point or golden triangle where the three rivers meet. There are great neighborhoods, terrific restaurants, great little shops, ad very welcoming residents.

Hey Kim,

Did you have any luck looking through the Rovia site?  How about long week-end in Asheville at one of their fabulous Spas.  They have great restaurants, hiking, French Broad River.  It's not too far from home.

As Real as Real Estate Gets!

Oh Kim: I can recall after making 20 gingerbread houses one year, working until 2 am each night for 2 weeks, after my children were in bed asleep, but loved doing it as it was 'for me' and my personal satisfaction after daily household chores, etc. When finally finished, I poured my wine, I was exhasted, but felt happy,  I was  in my bathtub, with candles all around and Glass of wine at hand, and my husband said "I Will be right in.."  and I said "Calgon -take me away.."   I hope you find yours! ... I've used the "Calgon Take Me Away" phrase for years... it's how my kids know I've really had enough! I'd suggest you come to Hood River, Oregon, but it's probably a bit far for 4 or 5 days. But it is gorgeous.

Definitely cooler temps here, but still a balmy 70 degrees and sunny skies and a total laid back atmosphere . Hiking, fishing, kayaking, glacier viewing....with travel time you might have 3 days left out of your 5. :)

Gretchen...I will google Hood River Oregon. Where town would we fly into?

Cheryl...we'd love to visit Alaska but I think we'd need 7+ days for that kind of trip. Maybe one of these days!
