Turlocker Makes Texas League All Star Team
A former Turlock resident has just been named to the Texas League Double A All Star Team. Tommy Mendonca from Turlock Ca and a graduate of Turlock High School and Fresno State was named as a reserve for the south division.
Tommy has been on a tear as of late and is leading the team the Frisco Roughriders in batting average and RBI. He is also tied for first in doubles and is second in home runs with 14. He was also named the Texas League player of the week last week after going 16 for 33 with 12 RBI.
Last year Tommy played in the Single A California league with the Bakersfield Blaze. I got out to one of the games last year when He and the Blaze were in town to play the Modesto Nuts. Unfortunately that was the game that his coach decided to give Tommy the day off. Tommy also was on the Fresno State team that won the College World Series a couple of years ago and was the MVP of the series.
I am looking forward to hopefully some day watching him play in the big leagues (even if he is playing for the Texas Rangers). Maybe some day I will get to see him in a game in Oakland against the A's. Or even better yet in an interleague game against the Giants. That way I can actually root for the Rangers and Tommy that day against the San Francisco Giants. (Sorry Giants Fans)
I am happy for Tommy and wish him all the luck in the world and hope that he realizes his dreams of playing in the big leagues some day. I am happy for his day Ray too who I have known since elementary school. Congratulations to both!
