Living In The 80s?  Quick Staging Tip From Connecticut Home Stager!

Are you living in the 80s?  Are you sporting legwarmers and/or leggings?  Does your wardrobe consist  of bright colors and pleated pants?  Do you have the Jersey-girl-hair-sprayed-straight-up bangs?  Did "Flashdance" really say it all?

When you think of your upholstery, does the word "marshmallow" come to mind?  Do you have a large, puffy black leather sofa?  Are your casegoods white lacquer with shiny brass trim in a vaguely Art Deco style?  Are your colors mauve, grey and pale green?

Congratulations, you're living in the 80s!

As a Home Stager, I guide many sellers in presenting their homes for sale.  By re-working a client's pieces, I can save them money on rentals.  Today's buyers are not only looking for homes that are move-in ready, but provide a glimpse of a lifestyle they aspire to.  They are NOT aspiring to 80s decor.  When working with a client's furnishings, sometimes they can be re-worked and enhanced with the right accessories.

 80s Sofa Before

Take this classic 80s rattan sofa with the lovely abstract pattern in mauve.  It's in an alcove for watching TV, off a second-floor communal study area meant for kids.  Not only is it dated, but looks very wishy-washy in a sea of beige.

We took the rattan sofa back to its Global style roots, which is a very contemporary trend.  A flat sheet in a green and white lattice pattern (Sorry it doesn't show well in this photo.) was fitted over the upholstery and some Suzani-style pillows were added.  A photographer's lamp and colorful art make the space more youthful.

These quick, simple fixes were provided with Nestings's accessories rentals.  Note:  the artwork may look a little off, but is a focal point as you come up the stairs directly across from it.

If you're living in the 80s - or any other decade - and you're selling your house, call a local Home Stager to help bring you into the new millennium and sell quickly!
