Kathy,
Great Post to localism,
I live in the Phoenix area, but has some friends in Anaheim, and I got caught in a very bad wind storm one night going thru palm springs. I had to pull over until it passed. Driving conditions can change so quickly.
Sally - The hatchery was for Fish......but now the whole area is for Mountain Lions :) :) Seriously, the Trout Farm was bought out by a conservation group that is amassing acreage for a Wildlife Corridor.
Hey, like the picture of my car? That was the scariest thing turning donuts on the freeway, and getting hit by a truck...... :(
Gary- Isn't that the truth....once I was driving with my door open at about .1 miles per hour as we couldn't see anything. Two days ago when I took the picture of the MFG House there, the wind was terrible, and many dust storms.....
I try really hard to keep a vary large following distance. Especially when it is rush hour traffic and I try not to get mad when others cut me off, i just adjust my following distance again. and move on.
I am sorry to hear about your mishap and I hope you are ok.
Susan- I am laughing because I remember many, mnay years ago we were taught to stay 1 car length for every 10 mpj....can you imagine now, yep they cut you off :) :) but I too like to leave a big distance, just safer all around.
I am fine, thanks, and I actually had to get another White Malibu as everyone in Whitewater knows me by my car when I am driving around :) :)
William- You story is a great reminder....just the other day I saw one of those small passenger trucks on the side of the off-ramp with the cover blown off!!!! The Wind, and Sand can indeed wreck havoc on your car.... and people need to SLOW DOWN in these areas.
Yes...with your luck a rental car might not be a bad idea :) :)
Rey- Yes...they are distracting, even with the Hands Free Device......we get involved with the conversation and lose our attention on the Road. I mostly pull over if it is a conversation, or call, that needs more than a couple seconds of attention......one accident is enough for me :) :)
Cynthia-Indeed there is always a bright side to things :) I love learning about different areas; I travel a lot....but I am not sure if I prefer the mudslides and dust storms or the snow storms. One thing all areas seem to have is the cell phones.......but soon even this will be regulated, although traffic delays won't :) :)
Kathy, please tell me the damaged car isn't yours! I see air bag deployment and don't wish that on you or anyone I know. (OK, There was that one guy, but he deserved it)
Todd- I wish I could tell you that wasn't my car. and yes the airbags deployed, cutting my arm, chest damage, etc. but I lived :) Scariest thing in the world spinning out on the freeway, then coming to a stop facing the oncoming traffic........
I guess it just wasn't my time, as everyone told me how lucky I was not to have been killed......it was horrible......
I'm so sorry, that sucks! I'm glad you are alright though. Don't want to lose California friends when I'm looking to go their possibly later this year or early next year.
Todd- yep it did suck...but that's why they call them "accidents"....
So, when are you coming, and what area? I'm going to Hawaii for a couple weeks at Thanksgiving......but that's it...no month off for me this year :(
Nice....yes, much cheaper after the Holidays, and not on a week-end when it is so crowded.......good choice.....anyway, when you do come let me know.
Well Kathy,
I'm not so sure this is confidence inspiring for my trips to Banning/Whitewater! But it was fun yesterday :-)
