It hit 110 degrees in Tucson this afternoon, so I made an adjustment.  I took four bottles of water on on my 4:00 hike, and I chose a trail that intersects with the Dobe Wash.  Today wasn't a day for hiking a trail with a lot of lines on the topo map.

This Gila Woodpecker was working, though.  I could hear the babies in the nest calling for food, and I set myself up in the shade of another saguaro cactus and started clicking away.  Keep at something long enough, and you'll get a winner.

All in all, it was a great day!  How's by you?

Now in that kind of heat it is difficult to go on a hike.  Good shot it was worth it.

That's one tough woodpecker, Mike! 110 degrees! Whew - the only good thing about your Arizona heat is that there's virtually no humidity.

That's a pretty cool self-portrait and a busy mamma. I saw them first on Facebook.

I'm up in Phoenix and I had two tours today with Buyers.  And it was freaking hot.  This couple of months it's pretty intense, out showing properties.  You try for early in the morning, but sometimes the client's schedule will not allow for it.

Great picture of the woodpecker, Mike. It's so true-if you just keep on shooting-you will get the great shot. You'll have to take a look at my picture of a picture.

Mike, amazing shots.

I guess if you wait long enough and have the talent you do you'll get the shot as well as the memory.

Enjoy the day

Mike - That's a couple more for your database. I've noticed that the birds don't really seem to mind the heat at all, I guess that's the environment they live in and they adjust. In order to succeed, we all need to adjust. Great shots.

Mike,

Your self-servant leadership as a Volunteer Ranger putting out the fires in AZ are to be applauded and commended. You are putting your own life on the line and trying to save wildlife. I think you're my hero and the Staff at AR and everyone in the RAIN needs to know about you and start praying for RAIN in AZ. We need to pray that you are protected along with all the landscape, homes, and wilflife that you are trying to protect.

Mike, you are a heroic man who emobdies courage. Your self-serfance leadership is not about praise and glory, or recognition for you, but to alert the people that the hot temperatures, exceeding 110 in AZ is out of control. With limited manpower, there's only so much you can do. You are doing the best you can and at the very least we can do is give a shout out for prayers to protect you, the people, their homes, the wildlife and all it's landscaping.

Mike thank you for your Volunteer efforts as a Ranger. Putting out fires is hot and hard work. I pray for safety. The air has to be hard to breath. Take care of yourself and know that I'm praying for you and for RAIN.

Patricia,

I appreciate your kind words, but in my work as a volunteer ranger, I just stand behind the desk at the Red Hills Visitor Center, 60 miles from the nearest of the fires, and answer questions for our visitors.  No danger there.  Saguaro National Park (West) is open, and all the trails are available to visitors.

Roy,

Thanks, my friend!

Larry,

That's right.  In order to succeed, we all need to adjust.  Thanks for stopping by.

Don,

Anyone can do it.  (And I use an inexpensive camera.)

Toni,

Thanks for stopping by!  I commented on your blog just now.

Barbara-Jo,

You're welcome!

Carol,

There was a young lady about your age who overtook me on the trail and kept going.  She was jogging!

Eric,

What a day to be showing houses in Phoenix.  I'm betting the AC wasn't on in those homes.

Teral,

Thanks for clicking the link on Facebook!  It's pretty hot there in Texas, isn't it?

Maria,

You're so right about the humidity!  It's comfortable in the shade.

Lynn,

That I do!  Thanks for stopping by to comment.

Tim,

Thanks for being the first to comment.  Isn't the RAIN a wonderful place?!

Mike that is another beautiful sunset in the first picture.  I got the card today of the sunset you took the other day.  Everyone in the office loved it.  THANK YOU.

Love the self portrait, is that at the park?  The woodpecker coming to feed her young ones is great, too.
