Perspective (Home Staging in Houston, Katy, Texas and the Surrounding Area)

Last week I sat with a friend at the hospital while her husband was having a procedure. He had been in the hospital for about 13 days and had come close to death more than once. As we sat, we marveled that he was still alive and were hopeful that he would be able to leave the hospital soon. When the procedure was complete, the doctor came out to tell us how well everything had gone and that he would start inpatient therapy soon. Amazing! Just a few days earlier we thought we would lose him and now plans are being made to get him home.

I was feeling very good about my friend’s situation and extremely grateful that things had gone as well as they had. Not long after I arrived home, I received an e-mail from my cousin that her husband, who had been fighting cancer for quite some time, was receiving hospice care. Once again I was overwhelmed by fear and sadness.

These two events reminded me that life is incredibly fragile, and on any given day anything can happen. Although I was feeling very sad, I was also very grateful. Things are going pretty well for me right now. Why am I stressed?

Stress

The sin I struggle with most is worry. As a result, I create a lot of stress for myself. The Home Staging business is stressful and owning my own business adds to that stress. Going forward, I will try to look at the things that cause me stress differently. After all, it seems silly to lose sleep over work related issues and allow my appetite to be dictated by the whims of a challenging client. After what I’ve seen my friends and family go through, the things that cause me stress seem extremely trivial.

My perspective has changed and I feel incredibly fortunate. I hope to hang on to the lessons I’ve learned in the last few days. My prayer is that by letting go of many of the issues I allow to cause me stress, I will be a better wife, friend, home stager, and ultimately, a better person.

Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? (Matthew 6:26-28)
