Survey the trees on your property this summer!

Now is the time, before the fall rains and wind set in, to survey the trees on your property.  This is especially important here in Humboldt County, California where many homes have Redwoods over 150 feet tall on their lot.

Look at each tree carefully, use binoculars if necessary.  Look at each tree from several different angles.  Are there any broken branches, do any of the trees appear to be leaning heavily in one direction etc.?

If the tree is small and you have the experience to take care of the problem, take care of it now while the weather is good.

If the tree is larger, it is time to call in the professionals.  This is the best time of the year to have tree climbers working in your back yard or to access the trees with an aerial lift.

Make sure all your trees are healthy going into the fall and you will not wake up to a big surprise after the first rain/wind storm.

I never even thought of surveying trees on a property. Now, our Giant Sahuaro Cactus, that would make sense to us the in the Sonoran Desert.

Ha. Spell check is regionally biased. Neither Sahuaro or Sonoran is in their dictionary!

Good evening John!  Thank for stopping by and your comment and support.  There are many regional terms here that do not come up in spell check.  Might be an excellent topic for a post.

Check the base of the tree for ants. You'll be looking for holes and 'saw dust'. Now look at what that tree will hit on it's way down.

Depending on what part of New Mexico you live this may be relevant..  In Albuquerque, it would not be such and issue..

Hi C Lloyd, you are correct about Albuquerque but it was a big issue when I lived in Taos.  Thank you for stopping by and your excellent comment.

Dan,

Good advice as always. We have 6 really tall palm trees in our backyard and every year at this time we have to survey what needs done as the trees could cause all kinds of problems if not dealt with in an appropraite manner. This year I got this one group to trim each tree for $30/tree which is a heck of a bargain.. If you not pay attention you could be looking at a lot of trouble from falling branches, potential lwasuits, etc. Thanks for the blog.

Thank you for commenting on my blogs.. I really appreciate it..

Good Evening Robert, thank you for your excellent comment!  Lawsuits are a big issue if you have tree's on your property.
