Facebook as a tool

By
Real Estate Agent with Re/Max Twin City, Waterloo

I was warned.  I was warned that Facebook could be the procrastination tool or all procrastination tools.  Once on one would spend hours looking up long lost classmates or old boyfriends and be addicted to meaningless wall postings for hours on end.

Now admittedly, I have been known to spend some time on Facebook, and yes, I've even checked out an old boyfriend or two, but as opposed to the tool of the devil I have found it to be a tool in my real estate business.  Much of being a good real estate agent is about managing relationships...keeping in contact with those that you may not see or speak to everyday.  Spending just a few minutes a day on Facebook to comment on someone's new pics or their status update has been a great way to keep in contact with people.

A few weeks ago I even got a call from someone on my facebook who wanted to see a house.  Saw one house, bought it and come next year I'll get a healthy paycheck from it.  Had they now been on my facebook I'm not sure they would have contacted me.

So, if you haven't signed up yet, check it out.  But I will end with this warning.......beware!   Once you've checked out that long lost somebody that you've always wondered about, keep the surfing to a minimum and stick to the little comments that tell people you're thinking about them.

Krista:

Interesting.  I got on facebook to keep tabs on my son who is in college.  I haven't gotten any business off of it yet.  Congrats to you!

I've registered, but I can waste WAY too much time searching for "long, lost..." than being productive. It's addictive!

Krista,

Facebook is something I need to check into now that you give a little bit of the flavor of how it works. Our businesses are all about staying in touch with prospects and Facebook seems to be one of the better ones for that.
