An Experienced Newbie's Persective

By
Real Estate Agent with Re/Max Newport Realty Corp.
As a newbie to AR, I feel compelled, if not obligated, to be here daily so I can get experienced at blogging and hopefully continue to enhance my knowledge of the real estate industry. I have been in the real estate business, full time, since 1982, and have been involved in over 1,000 successfully closed transactions.  I have been a director on my local Board of REALTORS, I am a past President of my Board of REALTORS, former Sales Manager for a National Franchise office in my market area (Racine, Wi), past City Official (Volunteer by appointment), co-chair of a Development committee that raised over $250,000 that was donated to local charities over our 8 year run, involved in many other activities over the years, civic, professionally, and family. I am a father of 2 great children, married for 35 years to the love of my life. I coached youth sports for 7 fun filled years, and even with a 30 handicap, I love golf. My ancestors came to America in 1637, fought in the Revolutionary War, War of 1812, Civil War, World War I, World War II, Korean War, Viet Nam War, Gulf Coast War, and Iraq. I am very busy in my daily business, in the top 2% in production in SE Wisconsin for the past 4 years, yet I still have a burning desire to learn new technologies, marketing methods and ideas, and have a grasp of where our industry is headed. I 100% agree that junk 'post for points' are a waste of space, I still feel AR has great value. I am not the most technologically advanced guy, that's not my job, I sell Real Estate. I realize the future of the Real Estate industry is partially in the hands of the technologically proficient, and many of these techies are entering the Real Estate industry, the industry is more dependent on the professional real estate consultant that understands people and their emotions, honest valuation of real estate, ethical business practices, and a belief in the Golden Rule. At this point in my AR experience I have not had time to look into Localism, points, tags, groups, etc., I'll get there eventually, I just hope the veteran bloggers have patience with me as I develop, probably a bit slower than some, more committed than most. Patience is a virtue.  Dan Gobis

Dan.  I admire your balanced approach to your personal life and to our industry.  We need more agents who bring your candid approach to the business.

Hi Dan,

To some extent, a blog post is like an ad event though you technically don't advertise in it.  You just talk about how you applied your skill and knowledge in different scenarios.  It helps people see and understand how you work and how you think.

May I suggest that you use shorter paragraphs, as text that all runs together for too long is usually not as well received.  No more than 3-5 sentences per paragraph.  Also, you don't need to sign at the bottom as it automatically shows "Posted by Dan Gobis" when you post it and includes your photo in the sidebar.

Nice shirt!

Welcome to blogging, Dan!  The great thing about AR is the ability to search for real estate related subjects and help in all areas of 'techidom' that you may feel inadequate at this point. Be prepared to miss sleep and to become addicted to AR.

Dan, I agree with you on what you said on your post.  I think finding the balance of spending time in here for fun and time to really do the business we are really in is important to find.  I am new to AR also and I have spent so much time in here reading so I can figure it out.  I have invited a lot of my associates to join Active Rain, but I am afraid that they too will spend too much time in here to the detriment of their personal production and business.  I see the possibilities, but balance is needed.

By the way, was your post a MeMe?

It sounded like it was based on a definition I read on a post earlier, but was not sure.

Welcome Dan! Active Rain has been known to become addicting. Everyone needs to find a balance with everything in their life and it appears that you already know that. There is more to AR than just blogging and learning. As long as you don't make it your whole life:)

Welcome Dan - I am a relatively new Active Rain blogger and I can assure you there is a lot to learn, but it is a wonderful experience so far.  I have no doubts it will continue, Karen

Dan, I am not sure exactly what a MeMe is, but I think it is when you talk about yourself and your experience.  Here is a link that I read that sounded like what you were doing.  Who?? MeME!

I am still new here to so I am just learning the vernacular that is used here.  Maybe, a more experienced member can try to help us understand this.  Please comment.
