Durango Colorado Home near Lake Nighthorse

A Durango Colorado home is so much more than sticks and bricks. In Durango, real estate certainly includes the sticks and bricks but it also includes the "feeling" one gets when entering the home. That feeling is affected by the proximity to recreational activities (like Lake Nighthorse) and work, the setting or landscaping around the home and in Durango, where we are surrounded by mountains, what type of view does the property have? Located 11 minutes to downtown Durango and 8 or 9 minutes from Lake Nighthorse with all of its recreational activities soon to be opened to the public, this architectural masterpiece has been joyfully fine-tuned by the owner/builder who happens to be a top-end custom home contractor. I often say that you can tell when a home "feels right" to my buyers. This is one of those homes that exudes warmth and fine detailing. It starts with the end of a cul-de-sac hilltop location and the paved driveway leading up to this incredible country home on 3 acres surrounded with towering Ponderosa pine trees and beautiful

Rapunzel window

La Plata mountain views. It continues with the flagstone entryway and the large covered entry deck where you are greeted by double glass doors with asymmetrical wooden mullions. The fenestration in this home is exceptional with arched windows and round-tops and a very architecturally delightful use of window grills in the windows. There is even a deck off of the master bedroom that you access from a hinged patio door…again with beautiful wooden mullions and side-lights on each side……that might best be described as Rapunzel-like; where are those golden locks flowing down from that deck?

Warmth is added with the recycled solid Maple flooring used in a large portion of the home along with the coffered ceilings, vaulted ceilings, the granite and marble countertops and even imported French tile. The kitchen is a delight with its custom-made cherry cabinets, large island and gleaming stainless steel appliances. Lots of windows allow plenty of the outdoors to come into this home.

The main house in this Durango Colorado home has three bedrooms, three bathrooms and a very large office that could be used as a family room instead, if needed. Additionally, the guesthouse has one bedroom, one bathroom plus a large private office as well. There is a heated woodworking shop off of the garage that would likely be every man's dream. The wood-burning fireplaces in both the main house and the

detached guesthouse add to the warm ambiance. Total square footage in the two homes is a little over 4400 ft.² and they are priced at $650,000. It is hard to include all the details about this beautiful piece of Durango real estate in a blog posting like this, so I recommend taking a look at the following link that will provide photos, virtual tour and a more detailed description. You are right.  It truly is an amazing home.  It is one of those homes at the moment you walk in you go "Wow, I'd like to own this.  It just feels right."

Rick,

You've written a wonderful story about this home and about the Durango CO area. You're not pushing a listing, you're describing an appealing lifestyle. The photos here are even more enticing than the main one on the website. It reminds me of the photo hints section of the CLHMS class, where the shot of an Adirondack chair with coffee, a book and a lapblanket overlooking a steam and a snow covered mountain is far more appealing than a front shot of the entire house. It draws you in. Keep up the good work!

Thank you for your wonderful comments Sharon. I'm currently working on a blog post that should go up in a day or so that talks about how people buy a home in the first 15 seconds of entering the property. In doing this for over 34 years, that is certainly one of the principles or truisms that I have been able to discover and pass on to both buyers and sellers.  This home fits that category to a T.
