Lonsdale Quay Market in Lower Lonsdale, North Vancouver

The Lonsdale Quay Market, located in the Lower Lonsdale area of North Vancouver, is a mecca for anyone searching for fresh, local produce, freshly cut flowers, fish, meat, delis, arts & crafts, clothing, local wine, and great restaurants.  The Quay came to life during Expo 86, and hasn't looked back.  Located right by the ocean, near a working ship building site, Lonsdale Quay has attracted foodies and latte lovers alike.  This is a wonderful place to hang out in the summer, sit on the deck, and look across at the downtown Vancouver skyline.

Lonsdale Quay - Lower Lonsdale - North Vancouver

Lower Lonsdale is a neighbourhood of condos and townhouses, with everything you'd need within walking distance.  There is a distinct west coast maritime feel all around, complete with brightly coloured tug boats mooring right by the Quay.  In the summer there's a fresh farmer's market outdoors, also, with lots of organic produce to choose from.  Lonsdale Quay is the place to be on a lazy Saturday afternoon, sitting on the deck by the ocean, with an ice cream and a couple of seagulls eying you closely.

It's great to stroll by the shops at Lonsdale Quay.  The Artisan Wine Shop is a great place to find local B.C. wines and ice wines.

The Quay has two levels for your shopping pleasure, with the remaining floors being the Lonsdale Quay Hotel.

You don't need a car when you live close to Lonsdale Quay.  This is a tug boat, moored right next to the Market.

The Market is open 7 days a week, from 9am - 7pm (with retail shops opening at 10am), and restaurants staying open until later.

Treat yourself.  Visit the Lonsdale Quay Market in Lower Lonsdale.

Kathy - Well, they don't serve aligator here, but they have pretty much everything else...  I usually do the drop away shadow framing, but Kristine inspired me!

Kristine - It does make for a great day, and if I have company over, I'll usually dash down to the quay for some fresh crab.  If ever you're on the west coast...

Lori - I have a feeling that Lonsdale Quay was "inspired" by Pike's Market - there are just too many similarities.  Oh, you must be psychic - my next post will be addressing seafood!

John - Isn't it funny how we all move around.  I was in Houston several years ago and loved it.  I love Victoria, too.  It's way more British than in England.  Yes, Kristine inspires a lot of us.  She's the best!

May I ask how one pronounces Quay?  Is it key, or kway?  I just never know.  Either way, it's a nice place to visit, and I probably wouldn't mind living there!  Actually, this reminds me of Toronto with just a touch of San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf.

Tom - That's a very good question.  Here we say "key", but my mum, who is British, pronounces it "kay".  I've heard that said before, that Vancouver's like Toronto, but with mountains and an ocean thrown in.  Oh yeh, and warmer weather!

Roger - Awww, thanks, Roger.  Glad you like my new pic.  Oh yes, I can just imagine you wandering through the quay at leisure.

Judy - It would be so great to have all my American friends come up here.  What fun we'd have!

That looks like a really neat place Sally, sort of like a very modern St. Lawrence Market without all the pungent summertime odours.

Malcolm - Ha ha!  Call me crazy, but there's something I love about the rawness of the St. Lawrence Market - yup, smells and all!
