Benjamin Franklin Words of Advice to Bloggers

"Either write something worth reading

or something worth writing."

Benjamin Franklin, American Statesman

As I see it . . . . . . .

Benjamin Franklin words of advice to bloggers

Write Something Worth Reading.

What's worth reading is in the eyes of the person reading the blog. They decide if the content of the blog is worthwhile and peaks their interest to read the blog and interesting enough to return to writers blog again.

One of the best ways to write something worth reading is to select a target audience for your blog and write to your audience interests. It becomes much like the big fish in a small pond philosophy.

By writing to your target audience you write to a small pond and to appeal to your audience interests. As you do your blog will pick up momentum and will attract followers based on common interests and you have the opportunity become the big fish in a small pond of your targeted audience.

When you blog in the big pond it becomes difficult to indentify your audience and their interest and it may become challenging to get traction and readership.

Write Something Worth Writing.

Once you select your target audience look at the world of blogging through the eyes of your audience.

■ Ask yourself what content will be interesting to your targeted

audience? Write your posts to peak your target audience

interests and to convey your knowledge on the subject.

■ If your writing a post to generate referrals write the post to

create a an air of confidence in the reader reflect your

knowledge of your market in your posts.

Start a dialog in with the person communicating with you and

create an line social relationship based on common interests.

Remember referrals are earned. The people who are following

you are also evaluating you and your expertise. It may take some

time for you to build the confidence and create rapport with a

person before you receive referrals.

■ If your post is to sell real estate, use either a photo or video tour

on the property. Photo's sell and tell a story tell a great story.

The content should factually describe the property and create

interest in the property and position you as a marketing

   professional.

■ How should the content be delivered, short bullet points,

   photo's, charts, grafts?

Target you post to fit the audience and to covey your message. Keep your post interesting with your target audience personally type.

■ How often should you post your blog?

If you keep your posts interesting your follower will look for them and you will create new followers. For the best results posting daily has substantial positive impact on your blog.

■ If your posts are fun, be careful of off color humor, you can

offend your audience very quickly. Also be very careful of

   posting questionable content.

Write you post to attract attention in the headline, match your content to your headline and incorporate a call to action in the post.

Benjamin Franklin's words of advice to bloggers are over to 200 years old but are still relevant today. Write something worth reading and writing something writing. They are simple rule with enormous potential to create a target audience and a following of raving fans.

Lou- Old Ben was wise, wasn't he.  This is so good for any Bloggers, old or newbies.  It can be overwhelming trying to find topics but if you pick a target group, as you said, it helps narrow the field.  (suggested this)

HI Lou - this is a great post and does really make you think about who your target audience is. "writing to your target audience you write to a small pond" - is a great interpretation.

Lou, not sure if the were bloggers at the time when Ben was there, but nonetheless, a great advice - now, to bloggers. And great analysis from Ben of 2011 - that is, Lou Ludwig.

Lou,

Ben Franklin knew his stuff! I taught a blogging class at my office yesterday and mentioned the same thing. It has to be valuable content or no one will read it.

oh this one hurts...I don't know if I ever have valuable content but I love the fellowship and the place to chat in the morning...I guess that is why I am not featured! Well I will still just "share" My thoughts, someday I may put something out there important!

Good advice but "Value" is in the eyes of the beholder (in my opinion) So, I will keep blogging without trying to over analyze if it has value.
