Nanaimo garage sales

In Nanaimo garage sales are held every weekend in the spring, summer and fall.  Most of them are successful but some are extremely successful.  Why is one garage sale more successful than another?  I think it has to do with planning.

It most certainly takes a lot of work to hold a garage sale.  But, if well planned, the profits you can earn on your old items make it all worthwhile.

Based on my own experience with garage sales and by talking with other people I have listed five tips to a successful, garage sale

Nanaimo garage salesFive tips to a profitable garage sale in Nanaimo:

•1. Start your sale at 7 a.m. - Forget the 9:00 o'clock start.  Most serious garage sale shoppers get there early.  If you open early you will receive the eager shoppers.

•2.  Advertise and sign- Pay for an ad in the local paper and run free ads in Craigslist and Kijiji. The day of your sale, put signs up in your neighbourhood, on major roads nearby and at intersections close to your home where it is legal to do so. The best signs are on Yellow poster board with black letters.  Make the letters big and use directional arrows.

•3.  Display everything - Don't judge what people will or will not buy.  People may want to buy broken things and fix them or outdated furniture and paint it.   If it is not out on display it won't sell.

•4.  Make it easy for people to buy things - Have plenty of change on hand both coins and bills.  Have a bag of bags available for people to cart things away in.

•5. Invite the neighbours - Let everyone on your street know that you are holding a garage sale.  Maybe they would like to make it a neighbourhood sale.  The more people out and about the better.  Maybe you could arrange to split the cost of the ads, too.

So, there you have it; five steps to help increase the success of your Nanaimo garage sales.  I would love to hear back from you if you have additional ideas on how to hold a profitable garage sale.

Thanks for the reminders.  It is not as if a person does this all the time, so a lot of planning is a good thing.  Thanks!
