New License Plates in Georgia

The Department of Revenue in May launched a contest open to all citizens of Georgia and companies authorized to do business in Georgia.  The dept is planning on a new license plate for 2012, and opened the idea to the public seeking their participation in the project. Those interested in submitting their original art work and designs had to do so by June 17th.

As a result of this contest there are online eight license plates designs the public can vote on.  Online voting is between June 24 and July 8th, 2011.   At the conclusion of the voting, three semifinalists will be presented to Governor Deal, who will announce the winning design on July 15, 2011.   The winning artist will participate in the announcement ceremony, along with State Revenue Commissioner MacGinnitie and Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle

I don't see #3 or 5 getting very far. Law enforcement likes to be able to see the actual plates, and these designs are too busy.  Texas put out new ones, and regretted it almost immediately as you couldn't see the numbers and letters. They had to take the colors and completely lighten them up.  People need to be able to quickly read them for "drive-by" issues...

I like #4, plain and simple... not that my vote counts.

Susan, I love it when the look at new plates for the state. My only problem is that they don't always consider how difficult the numbers may be to read on some of the designs! Hope you have a happy Fourth of July with your friends and family!

Susan...

I was not aware of any of this. I'll have to check out the entrants! Thanks for the update.

Donna and Connie,

I have to agree with you.  I voted for the plate, in which the numbers were the clearest.

Texas had online voting for the new plates as well. I think that is such a cool idea!
