Shelton CT Farmers Market ~ Enjoy the Harvest Three Days a Week

If you like really fresh produce and want to support local farms at the same time, you have three days during the week this summer to ‘pick’ up fruits and vegetables, and also a lot more, from local growers and market vendors in Shelton CT.

The Shelton Farmer’s Market runs every Wednesday from 3-6 p.m. and Saturdays from 9-1 p.m through October downtown Shelton at the intersection of Cornell and Canal Streets right near the Riverwalk.  At least a dozen local vendors are on hand providing vegetables, fruits, jams, seafood, plants and handmade crafts.

Jones Family Farms is running its Farmers Market on Fridays in July and August from 3:30 – 6:30.  In addition to providing fresh produce from local growers like Stone Gardens and Jones Farms itself, the farm is also offering wine tasting, cooking demonstrations and also entertainment from groups such as the YouthCONNection.

The market is held at Jones Harvest Kitchen Courtyard which is located outside the wine tasting room at 606 Walnut Tree Hill Road Shelton.

Guests are asked to bring food donations or make a monetary donation to the Valley Food Bank-Spooner House and by doing so, will be automatically entered into a raffle to win a gift basket filled with local food products.

Support local farmers.   The closer the food source is, the less the food has to travel to get to your plate, which usually means it's fresher, tastes better, and is handled by fewer people.

Also, by purchasing locally grown foods, you are supporting members of your community, instead of some unknown, distant industrial farm or food manufacturer.

Buy local --- everyone wins!

Barbara, you can't beat fresh produce.  Durham has a Farmers Market and they always have a crowd.

Barbara, fresh is best!  I bought a 34 lb watermelon today from a local grower... that was one of the smaller ones he had but you wouldn't be able to get this in a store!

George -- Fresh from the farm is always better.  Wish we could have it year round!

Silvia -- What???? A 34 lb watermelon?  How did you even get it out of there?  I'd love to see a video of that!

Laura -- New Jersey has GREAT produce.  I always visit local farmstands when I am down there in the summer.  You have the best blueberries!
