I don't know how it is in your market, but the metal thieves in my town are quick, ruthless, and many. At a recently closed Fitness Club building, they stopped operating on a Tuesday and on Wednesday morning all the sellable metal was stripped from the rooftop A/C units. Same scenario with a vacant church. These people must be desperate.
Now we have evidence that they aren't satisfied just taking what they can get easily.
LockBox users beware. I just heard of a recent event that has us reconsidering their use at certain locations. A flex office space was undergoing tenant improvement work for a tech company with some significant investment in tech and power infrastructure. A lock Box was put on the suite to allow various contractors access without having a lot of keys floating around.
Well, it's not what you might think. No one left the door unlocked and no one failed to "spin the dials" on the lockbox. The metal thieves destroyed the lockbox, liberated the keys, and helped themselves to all the copper and other valuables inside the suite.
Oh, I know what you're thinking. I understand the alarm was working just fine. Quick in, quick out. Perhaps these thieves would have defeated the door lock without the lockbox. Who knows. I just know these guys have gotten way out of control.
How is your community dealing with this sort of crime?
