Flags, rodeos, fireworks - what wonderful ways to enjoy this holiday weekend! We have so many freedoms in America that we take for granted. Every time that I see a flag flying against a blue sky, I attend a rodeo or I sit in my front yard to watch the magnificent fireworks display that my city puts on, I am reminded of those freedoms.
I guess I am sentimental because my heart pounds a little harder and my eyes tear up when I hear the Pledge of Allegiance or the Star Spangled Banner. I have commented before on how I think that the cowboys and cowgirls of the rodeos are some of the most patriotic people in this country. They still have the love for this country that a lot of people don't.
Early this morning I received an email that made me stop and think. Someone suggested that on this weekend of celebrating our freedoms that it might be a good idea to read the Declaration of Independence. I thought I knew what was in it but when I pulled it up on the computer, I discovered that I only knew a few things that were in there.
With the elections coming up soon, I think it might be a good idea for all of us to reread this document. It made me stop and think. America has been here for over two hundred years and it is time that we appreciate our freedoms and the ones who protect those freedoms.
Have a safe and Happy 4th of July!
