New Real Estate Agent Tips: Can You Work Part-Time and Be Successful?

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Alliance in Louisville, Colorado

I did this video earlier today in response to the question below.

New Real Estate Agent Tips:  Can You Work Part-Time and Be Successful?

http://sellinginsite.com/videos/can-you-work-part-time-and-be-successful/

I received the following question:

I have a question for you, something I've been battling with a bit.  So I've heard the age old debate of being a part time agent vs. a full time agent.

Some say part time is ok, many feel that if you want to do it right, it must be full time.  My question is sort of the opposite.  In your opinion, can you be a full time agent AND do a part time job to make some extra money? If so, when do you feel would be best to do that part time job and how many days/hours would be reasonable?

I guess my main concern would be not being available whenever clients may need me, and especially missing out on opportunities because I couldn't take a call.

Love, love, LOVE your video! I agree...taking care of little ones is a LOT of work!! Mine are now 18 & 21...much easier. lol

And your video and blog are very timely. I'll be starting a part-time job with my ex-husband's company next week. I worked for them years ago, and they love me and asked last week if I had some time to give them for data entry work. I plan to work 10-4, 4 days a week...with as much flexibility as I need. They just want my help. "You can work at 3am if you'd like...we need you!!!" : ) This gives me time in the morning to catch up on emails, make calls to banks & title companies, and have late afternoon, all evenings & weekends free for real estate. I've been licensed since 2007 and have learned most of my days are spent in front of this computer...or previewing houses, CE classes, etc. VERY little face-to-face contact with clients. And yes, I have my iphone to check emails and return calls or texts on my breaks. Some agents don't get back to me for HOURS. That will never happen with me. I return calls within the hour...sometimes immediately. Of course when I'm at the other job, you're right, the focus will be on that job. But I only agreed to help them because of the flexibility. They know I'm a real estate agent, and my current clients must come first. Fortunately, my "new boss" used to be a real estate agent in a previous life....so she gets it! : )

Thanks Mario!!

Hi Sue!  Thanks so much for your feedback.  I dream of the days when my girls will be grown up--but then I am sure to be sad because they won't be around as much :)

Good luck with your new venture.  Sounds very exciting!

Talk soon.

Thanks,

Mario

Hi Jennifer!  "Great minds........"  Wow, that is so cool!  It is such a small world.  I have in my queue to do a video discussing "Sell With Soul" for new Agents and what a great philosophy your book offers.  Plus the hands-on pointers you give in your book from someone who is a successful Realtor :)

Thanks Sue for getting in touch with Jennifer.  I contacted Jennifer earlier this year and I have a tremendous amount of respect for her and what she does!

Have a great 4th!  Heading to the pool this afternoon to cool off :)

Thanks,

Mario

This is certainly an area of struggle for me as a husband, father of 3, and someone who volunteers for 4-5 hours a week. Time management is crucial and, I must admit, I'm not very good at it. Maybe in the future you could post your opinion on how best to manage time so that your family, friends, and clients are all satisfied. Thanks for your post!

In the day time my Girlfriend/assicant would do all the leg work and carry the load for the files and paper work stuff ect....
