Providence High School in Charlotte NC Makes Newsweek's Best American High Schools list in 2011!
Congratulations to Providence High School in Charlotte, NC for ranking 186th on Newsweeks Best American High Schools list in 2011! It isn't easy out-ranking some of our nation's finest high schools, but Providence High School in Charlotte NC stood out among 10,000 public high schools in Newsweek's annual assessment of academic success.
Against a backdrop of severe budget constraints in most of our nation's school districts, to maintain rigorous standards and consistently produce well-prepared and well-rounded graduates is quite a feat, and Providence High School in Charlotte NC proved once again that it stands above other high schools in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) system. The only other CMS high school to make the top 500 list was Myers Park High School, ranked at #439.
Newsweek revamped its methodology for this year's ranking of America's Best Public High Schools. Each school in the pool of 10,000 top US high schools was ranked on the following components (the weight of each component is in parentheses):
- Four-year, on-time graduation rate (25%)
- Percent of 2010 graduates who enrolled immediately in college (25%)
- AP/IB/AICE tests per graduate (25%)
- Average SAT and/or ACT score (10%)
- Average AP/IB/AICE courses offered per graduate (10%)
