Evening in Daytona Beach Shores on the Eve of 4th of July

My best shots are those that I have no taken. When I do not have my camera with me, that's when the best photo ops are happening. Yesterday it looked gloomy, but there was no rain, and I figured that there was no reason to take a camera with me.Evening in Daytona Beach Shores

My nearly 11-yo grandson is with us this week. We took a short drive to the closest park a half mile from us, and when I got out of a car, I saw that the ocean was just beautiful. The water was the color of steel and there was no horizon, the sun popped from heavy clouds with just a few minutes before sinking into the horizon and cast its light onto the sand...

But the camera was at home. We jumped back into the car, drove back, grabbed the camera, came back and in about 10 minutes later I had a camera in my hand and I was standing right there... but the sun has got lower and the beach was darker. When you are close to sunset, the colors and lights are changing very quickly...So, here is not exactly what was when I did not have the camera.

I'm glad the weather cleared up enough for the NASCAR races this weekend.  Sparks flew and they were both excellent entertainment!

Murphy's law at our house, the best photo opportunities are when the batteries in the camera go out!

Happy 4th to you and yours.

Jon, lesson learned here? Never go out without the camera. I have learned that. I can go days with nothing that strikes me. If I leave the camera at home, I know I will run across something begging for a photo!

Enjoy your grandson! Hope he doesn't wear you out, LOL. Happy Independence Day!

Still nice pictures, Jon - I will just close my eyes a minute and picture them a little more dramatic - :)

This has happened to me many times, and I still sometimes leave home without the camera.  And my cell phone camera is not so good.

Andrea - I know, but two problems here. the backpack with camera and lenses is about 20 lb. The other is walkingon the beach with a camera is bad for the camera. You get salt creating a film on the  lenses within a few minutes

So, it is still hit and miss
