Choosing the right agent

Sadly most people today believe that one agent is as good as the next. Even the National Association of Realtors has compared finding the right agent to shopping for a pumpkin during Halloween...

So what is important when choosing the agent to help you find your new home?

Empty promises? Being the biggest? Being with the biggest company?

As a buyer things that might be important to you may be. Finding the right home with the least amount of wasted time.

Helping you understand and prepare for the financial hurdles involved in purchasing Real Estate.

A proven track record of saving buyers money on purchases/ a written guarantee to save you money or else.

The ability to listen to what your wants and needs are.

These are just a few of the things I feel most buyers should look for when choosing their agent.

(Of course these are things we strive to offer our clients:)

One thing buyers should beware of. If you drive by a home you decide your interested in you probably don't want to choose the agent listed on the sign in front of that house. This agent is representing the seller. If you now want this agent to help you in the purchase, that agent can not technically work for your best interest(ie. best price) because she or he already has an obligation to work in the sellers best interest. By being agent for both parties, the agent must become neutral.  Human nature makes this very difficult. So what can happen is the agent now works in their own best interest, and not the buyer or the sellers...
