Texas is Burning to a Crisp!

Who Needs Fireworks?

Driving to Wichita Falls on Friday was a real trip! As I passed through Huntsville Texas I was shocked and saddened by all the burned acreage on both sides of Interstate 45. Looking to the left and looking to the right was brown, dead and distressed. After the wildfires devastation that has traveled through I realized the true power of fire. And, it's hot, hot, hot with no relief in sight.

Today it is!
Wichita Falls High today...111

Texas is under a burn ban as we speak and NO FIREWORKS ARE ALLOWED.It is yet another hit to our economy as all FireWork Sales are banned and for good reason! As I continued to drive my eyes couldn't believe how the sights had changed in just 30 days. Over and over again I was coming across strips on the side of the road where some dummy had thrown out a cigarette carelessly. As I was in bumper to bumper traffic in downtown Fort Worth I was so hot! For some reason the city planner decided it was a great time to do all their road work on the Friday before the holiday and the traffic was backed up for miles.

And, then it got worse. Traveling on 287 North to Fort Worth, there were thousands of acres of beautiful corn fields with corn about waist high...totally dead. No rain and no way to water has caused total devastation to many crops. All of this simply feeds the cycle of our economy. With no corn there is nothing to feed the cattle and livestock! Ranchers will be selling off their cattle for slaughter, thus the price of meat will be affected and raised.

Now, I did not mean for this to be so depressing but it is what it is right now. We get no fireworks this year so we are having a wonderful family get together by the pool and I plan to swim till I shrivel up to nothing! Love the water!

Have a great 4th of July holiday and stay cool! Be cautious with your outdoor cooking and throwing cigarettes out windows! Don't do it! Let's take special care of our Lake Conroe and and all lake areas in Texas.

Take care my friends,

Deb, I have seen the news reports on the damaged corn crops. Some counties in North Texas they have added to the burn ban but some public fireworks shows will still take place when fired over shopping center asphalt parking lots and some communities where the fire department is on standby nearby. It's pretty dry, no question. Happy 4th.

Hi Deb-It is a vicious cycle with the economy where one disaster effects so many things. A definite trickle down effect. I hope you have a great 4th. I love the water too. Thank you for inquiring further about Lindsey and you should have a e-mail from me. God bless

Interesting; they are selling fireworks in Parker but they are illegal to set off in Murphy. Let's pray for a safe and happy 4th of July celebration. Enjoy your swim, Deb.

Debra, Last night we got a nice rain but oh my can we just say too little too late.  I'm amazed at all the dead trees I am seeing. It is going to be quiet 4th.  I can tell you that our dog Dundy will be very happy about it though as he hates the fireworks.  We just need to pray for MORE RAIN!

Hi Deb!  Like Joni, I'm glad to see that the fireworks have been cancelled--protecting the area from the potential MAJOR losses from fire is more important, I think.  I know it won't be the same without the fireworks but, the expense of rebuilding is far greater than the loss of the revenue from fireworks displays!

Have a fabulous Fourth--and STAY COOL!!!

Hi Deb,  Your post is indeed depressing but so is this weather!.  Let's try to stay cool by the pool and enjoy our families and friends.  It will rain again, just keep praying for sooner rather than later. :)

Debra - Every time it rains in Minnesota I think of you'all in Texas! We are in the 80's with rain every day or so. Even today it's so muggy that it might as well be raining. The weather will affect food prices.... unfortunately. Blowing the clouds your way once again!

That sounds horrible, Deb, I'm so sorry. Every few years some careless person lights the hill on fire behind my mother's house. I'm always nervous on the 4th of July. I'm glad you are safe and sorry for the damage in your area.

Chris
