I Push People Off Ledges (but in a good way, of course)

JumpingWhat ever happened to TALKING people off a ledge? Well, talking takes lots of hot air and sand through the hourglass so why not just JUMP??

I had an interesting interaction yesterday with a new potential client that I have been trying to get a hold of since JANUARY (6-months ago). We finally spoke at length last month and I asked about his house hunt. Here is the information I received yesterday:

"Well, Jay... the one thing that I have been nervous about is my preapproval letter telling the seller that I'm approved for MORE than I am offering for the house. I just don't know if I want to do that."

So with a gentle PUSH, off the ledge we go! Eliminating a simple mental block and getting the process going! Now he is off to pull the trigger to get his papers and we are off to house hunt in the next few days.

Talk is, well.... cheap. It's the JUMPERS who get there faster and have more fun flying.

Everyone has their roadblock to a certain process, so it's our job to climb out there on the ledge with them, grab on tight and dive off, face first with the finish line RACING towards us!

Happy flying today!

Good morning Jay. I really like your style and the analogy is apt. I always prefer the proactive tactic to waiting and seeing. It doesn't always work, but it is the way to go. Have a productive day.

So much of what we do in this business relates to psycology and figuring out what makes the clients tick (or jump as you put it!), isn't it? Great post!

Hi Jay, no doubt we help people take that plunge in a good way :)!  It's good you were able to remove the preapproval mental road block for your client.  Good luck and much success on the home hunt!

I agree with Sheila that giving a push won't always work, but it is what some people want and need to overcome their procrastination.

Amazing how a little talking and listening will solve most problems.  Once you have identified that, it's easier to step off the ledge.

I totally understand someone being nervous.  Buying a house is NEWS anymore, and no one wants to be a statistic.

Sometimes clients just need to express their fears and know someone heard them and understands how they feel.

Jay, how true! Here in our area, we have the lenders give us preapproval letters that match our offer. The sellers know how it works, they just want to see the letterhead!
